Ok, it was unforgettable. They played lots of “Doolittle” material (my fav album), the sound was good. It was quite cold (4-5 celsius), no problem. Charlie Black didn’t say a word to the crowd.
Obviously, the 2,1 liters of beer helped me to “understand” the show in a better manner… 😀 😀
Some pics from the Curitiba concert, yesterday (historic!):

hmmmm
I was at pinkpop, because the tickets for Rock Werchter were sold out. Decided to cut some corners by only going the third day. So I missed the Pixies. From what I’ve heard it was a bit like the museum Arthur mentioned earlier. 4 people standing on stage, no interaction what so ever, they played the play list and said goodbye. Could have been because the field in front of the stage wasn’t that filled with 10.000 people. One guy jumped on stage and it took the crapy security about 2 minutes to catch him, the guy managed to kiss the feet of the singer, who didn’t notice it according to the people I spoke to.
Anyway, the third day of the festival, not bad. Never seen Lenny Kravits and Moloko, so I played some catching up with those two bands, Moloko was great, she is plain mad. Jet, and Datsuns were rather good, nothing special though. Muse wasn’t that intresting, been there done that experience.
Geforce, lets trade, I will go to RW and I will get you tickets for the Pixies in the Heineken Music Hall, sounds like a good deal to me 🙂

Bald and forty? Nope, but i guess i compensate that with beer… and i don’t like U-Mass at all. Velouria, Gigantic, Wave of mutilation and Tame are the songs for me.
Tame, naaaah. U-mass sounds a bit Nirvana-like though. Or actually I should say, Nirvana sounds like U-mass 🙂
BTW, Kim is not bald I hope :p

in this case bald, beer-drinking fourty-year old men (much like Francis himself), me being the exception 😎
Less of the bald and forty years old if you don’t mind. 😀
Ah…. The Pixies in happier, hairier times…

Did they play Cecilia Ann as their opening song in Brazil? And did they end with “Where’s my mind?” I hope so. Lots of Doolittle and Surfa Rosa cause that’s what’s attracting the people, Trompe Le Monde and bossanova are great though. Best Pixies song must be U-mass and My Velouria.
Strange how many Pixies-fan are on this forum. So music does attract a certain kind of public, in this case bald, beer-drinking fourty-year old men (much like Francis himself), me being the exception 😎

Are they actually still in a fight? That was the reason I thought they broke up. Black said 3 years ago he was only thinking about a reunion when he needed money quick or when a family-member needs a new kidney. 😀
I don’t think so ? Water under the bridge now apparently.

I love the bit in the DVD where he’s swinging his guitar round and the strap comes off… Kim just about p*sses herself with laughter.

Charles old? Get out of here, he still looks incredibly sexy, especially on the new DVD with the way too small T-shirt and the short pants (he used to carry those big T-shirts). But that’s what gives the Pixies that extra thing: they aren’t rock-gods. They don’t have the grunge look or the David-Bowie-smile.

Well I’ll be digging out my Planet Of Sound t-shirt for the T in the Park festival in Scotland in July. The only worry is that I’ll be working on stage two and the Pixies will be playing stage one !
Rumour has it though that they might be switching to stage two, to headline one of the nights instead of being way down the running order on stage one.
It’s been almost thirteen years since I last saw them live and boy does that make me feel old, although I think I’ve perhaps aged a little better than Mr Black and his cohorts 😀
I can’t remember if Charles said much to the crowd the couple of times I saw them ? I know Kim was more chatty, even Joey Santiago muttered a few things to us. Favourite record…? still Doolittle, but they’re all great in there own ways.
If anyone wants a Pixies t-shirt by the way, they can be found at this website under music shirts www.shocktees.com

The wind was blowing from the wrong direction, otherwise i could have heard them here at home…

Today Pixies have set foot on European soil, Pinkpop, the netherlands. Boy, I wished I was there. :'(

Here are some Pixies sites and the playlist, which is quite long and everything I wanna hear.
Hmm. it’s pretty similar to our Curitiba gig – i.e. there are some differences in the order of the songs. Unfortunately, they didn’t play “La La Love you” here (I also missed “I Bleed”). I think the classic “Debaser” was the last one.
One sad thing: it’s only one hour and a half, including the encore (“bis”, in my home language). 🙁

If I want to hear a bunch of crap and some arrogant shouting I can go to the Peppers again. The thing I hate about festivals though is the audience. Does anyone feel the same? Don’t want to sound snobbish, but sometimes they can be a pain in the ass!! I’d rather saw them playing at the sportpaleis or ancien belgique.

Back in the days when Charles still called himself Black Francis, he did occasionally shout a few words to the audience: “This is a sing-along, it’s called Tame.” Not too much though, i remember Kim being a bit more communicative with the audience. Although that could be totally subjective memory, of course 😉

Does anyone of you know if Charlie Black says something to the crowd sometimes? The only thing I found I little disapointing was that he didn’t say a word. You know, you wait for so long, so long, and then they come and don’t say even “hi”? 😮
OTOH, I must admit that at least he didn’t try to be populist (like the ubiquitous “hello Rio” or “hello Brazil”), I mean, he showed some atitude.
One of the the worst populist attempts was comitted by Jason Newsted, former Metallica bass player, in Sao Paulo 1991: he went to mike and said “gracias”! Come on my friend, you could at least learn which language is spoken in a certain country…

I won’t be seeing them at Pinkpop, for now at least. I just didn’t think that the Pinkpop-rundown this year was all that spectaculair, and i definately had enough of Lenny Kravitz performing there. Can’t they leave that guy at Madame Tussaud’s where he belongs? But one never knows though – Pinkpop being a twenty minute walk from my flat, so…
I’ll be at Werchter though. And i don’t mind having the Pixies programmed a bit early. At least i will still be somewhat sober.

Two months? I thought they were going to Pinkpop. If you’re going to Werchter, let me know something. I’ll be the kid near the entrance crying he lost his ticket 😀
Doolittle is my favourite album too, though Surfa Rosa comes straight behind. Trompe Le Monde and Bossanova are good too, but I’d rather hear them playing Debaser than My Velouria to be honest 🙂 But we’ll see.
If anyone’s going to Werchter in Belgium, here’s the bad news. The Boston four are placed BEFORE placebo. They should have shown a bit more respect towards the Pixies, and let them end the festival. I mean, Placebo are just beginners, and David Bowie, well, David Bowie will probably tour for another 3 decades.
Anyone bought the DVD as well? A gig of 1988, when Charles still had more hair/less kilograms.
