The hump is certainly bigger……………So, 16 SLBM after all? There was a debate whether it was 12…

Hans M. Kristensen of FAS.ORG using Google Earth has spotted and confirmed the sighting of the Type 94 SSBN.

That’s a neat shot of both 051B together in exercise.

That’s probably one of the best shots for 525. Pretty purdy ship for me. I like the way the raised deck on the front complements its lines more than having it removed like in the 054A.

You left out aircraft carrier developments.

photos for strategic assets like nuclear subs don’t come that often.

I am more interested in what going to happen under water!

Any idea whether any type of SURTASS vessels might arrive? Saw a scanned photo of a new TAS few years back. LPH? More Ka-28? And last but not least, the so-called 095 SSN?

I’m looking for 5 things currently:
1. 052D starting in Changxing (the new JiangNan location) early next year. Although pictures might come slow since the new shipyard is actually further away from the land area.
2. The mysterious LPH that they are supposedly going to build. I’m guessing anytime before 2010 is possible?
3. A new class of SSK probably at Changxing again.
4. A possible Corvette/sub-chaser class – I’m really iffy on this, only mentioning it because it’s clearly missing in PLAN and also that they need something to replace Type 37 just like Type 22 replacing Type 21.
5. 054B class using CODOG propulsion (this is based on what Richard Fisher reported recently)

You left out aircraft carrier developments.

Based on what I have been reading the PLAN has been building new SSN’s/SSBN’s whilst they have been getting the new surface combatants. Based on available evidence it seems like the PLAN’s procurement process is very balanced.

Well, I think it would better if what comes out next were new SSN/SSBN rather than Ships or A/C carriers. That off-course would mean we will be having a major drought in terms of picture. But, IMHO more newer SSN/SSBN/SSK would be the best thing for the PLAN. I mean, did you recently read some of the info on the HMS Astute? 😮

Thanks for posting Hyper, these are very clean looking ships, far more so than even the original 054’s. I suppose the search is now on for what will come out of Chinese shipyards next?

It seems a bit small if you ask me.

That’s why it’s called a model;)

Which is alot more likely as any charges would be spying orientated.

Unless you actually broke into a top secret military installation and took pics/stole secret files, they are not going to do anything of the sort. If you are caught, you’d loose your camera and might get detained, questioned or even roughed up a bit for your troubles, but thats about it.

Its very uncommon for ‘trainspotters’ to be put into prision and unheard of for them to loose their lives over a few shots. You really think there would be this many pics of supposedly ‘secret’ kit floating around on the net if the Chinese authorities were that anal about people taking pictures?

Frankly, I would think you have a higher chance of being shot while taking pics of secret projects in the US.

Edit, added:

Anyways, fantastic pic! This is probably the breakthrough the PLAN has been really waiting for, as the VLS on the 051Cs and even 052Cs now look distinctly aged compared to these cells. I would expect these square cells to be the standard VLS of PLAN ships from now on. If these work as planned, then it should not be too difficult to develop a larger version for the HH9s.

Hopefully the PLAN can now start building destroyer sized ships that are more in line with the firepower your would come to expect from ships of their size.
