Just seen any advert on the back of this months airliner world for this app that you can point your phone at any aircraft and it will tell you the type destinations etc. Just wondering if anyone has used it and if its any good?

Had it just under 24 hrs now and it’s probably the best £2.99 I have ever spent. Love the app and from what I can tell it’s pretty acurate too. Not put my phone down since I bought it. 😉

Brilliant, so no need for radio, binoculors, notepad, patience, interest in recognition, or enthusiasm anymore!
strange comment
It is just another tool to use like email or SBS.
You still need to see the aircraft and for that you need bins and has for patience you need it in bucket.
If anybody has lost the enthusiasm for spotting , then maybe they need another hobby 😉

On those many days, like today, when there is 8/8 cloud I enjoy just watching the aircraft movements and singling out individuals for greater scrutiny and of course you are not limited to what you can see from where you are located – the world is your oyster!

Pagen01, it’s just an app on a phone that’s essentially the same as many people look at on their computer. It’s great for things like contrail shots where you want to find out what the aircraft is, it’s not like it’s going to end or destroy the hobby of spotting.

I’m hoping it was a clue in the thread title…. In which case this is it:
Even better is the augmented reality version, just point the phone’s camera into the sky and enjoy!

I use flightradar24 myself on the PC, which my kids think is “really sad”
However, once they heard about the Planefinder app, that then becomes cool…go figure!
Anyway, no.1 son has planefinder on his iPhone, and we found that at home, with the stuff going over at high level, it didn’t pick everything up. Down near Heathrow, however, it worked just like the adverts.
As to the security thing, if you really want to bring down an airliner, there are plenty of other ways to do so, which don’t need going into on a public forum.

Oh No!!!!
The WapStrappedapptrap.
I think the phone just reads the transponder doesn’t it?
Does it work on the Flyovers at 35k?

I’ve seen it in use, and it does look fairly impressive.
