Hello Archer,
I stand corrected, thanks for putting the record straight. Anyone know if it’s planned to bring the Dutch Cat over for any shows this year?

Tom, that only relates how the earlier Cats had a differently shaped rudder than the PBY-4 and later series. It mentions the PBY-6 having a taller fin, but this was a slightly different shape than the Plane Sailing Cat (see image below). The Plane Sailing Cat (the original one) had been modified with R-2600 engines instead of the normal R-1830s and the larger, rectangular rudder was a part of this modification.
Original rudder shape (PBY-1 shown here):

I believe it was a postwar modification to certain Cats to improve rudder authority, possibly combined with an engine upgrade, but I’m sure someone will confirm if this is the case. G-PBYA appears to have an original rudder…

another thing, looking at the tail of the new catalina , and looking at the tail of their old catalina, ive noticed the shape of the tail fins are very different? did British Catalina’s have a different fin fitted?
this is a pic of their old one from airliners.net-

A little bird tells me that she’s off to the paint shop at Marshalls anytime soon, maintenance is all but finished and CAA are happy, bring on the ‘proper’ scheme 😉

Glad to hear it hasn’t been repainted _just_ yet, events conspired to prevent me seeing it flying last year, be nice to see it with that patina of age just once before it gets a spruce up.

An appropriate registration I think. Duxford this week end so still not painted white.

Is it planed to paint it white again? Not something else?
Just asking.

I hope so, i heard they were going to re-paint it over winter, although obviously nothing has come of it yet. Maybe someone out there can prove me wrong?
