Planning a visit to RAF Hendon – Help with DSLR settings

I’m heading down to RAF Hendon in mid December with the aim of taking lots of aeroplane pictures! Last time I was there was seven years ago while the Milestones building was still under construction, so there’s been many changes in the displays.

This will be the first time I’ve been there with a Digi SLR, so I’m looking for a few pointers in getting good pictures in a museum known for not having the best lighting in the world.

I have a tripod, and my camera is a Nikon D50 with an AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm 3.5-5.6G ED lens. I’m guessing I need a smaller aperture and long exposure to get depth of field and enough light, but some pointers and example pictures would be nice.

Thanks

Steve

I’m sure you can use a tripod, but seem to recall you need to get a tripod pass from reception.

I haven’t been there for over 20 years myself, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that there is a ban on tripods. I had that problem at Kbely Museum, and then had the audacity to stand on one of the guards’ chairs to get a better angle! What a hullabaloo that caused!
