I think it is an absolutely magnificent looking plane. But at the end of the day, it was no doubt designed for aerodynamics and not for aesthetics.

I quite agree. I went up to Manchester this morning on way into work. Nipped up to T1 car park and took photos of it pushing back and taxiing out. It’s a lovely beast. Weather just held and then the heavens opened !

The nose is not dissimilar to the D0. 328. 😉

the back end does look very 767ish, no major redesign there
the wings do look very bendy though

Wish they had adopted the original shark fin tail. That would have made it stood out.

Isn’t it great folks have different aesthetic opinions:D

Imagine a World where there was just one design of everything:eek:…not good.

Once the 787 has been around a while, got the lived in look and many livery variations it won’t seem as bad to those of us that are not overly impressed.

Lets just hope it does live up to the claims of economy and reset the standards that should in the long run benefit us all with travel costs.

At the end of the day it has to perform well as a machine and it looks like it might.

The nine in service are quietly getting on with the job which is always a good sign.

Honestly…in my opinion, the 787 is about as ugly as a jet of that type could be.

Each to their own of course but it its up there with the Comet and Caravelle in the stakes for the ugliest jet

Yep, each to his own. I’ve always thought that the Caravelle is an aeronautical design icon. The Comet maybe a little less so.

With the A.380 and thinking of other double deckers, Breguet Universal, Lockheed Constitution, Convair XC-99, Boeing Stratocruiser I don’t think it’s possible to have one that is good to look at.

It’s always going to be a bit of a lump.

The 787 doesn’t have any excuses:D

Yes, I agree. The nose is awful and the rest of it is nothing special.

Each to their own of course but it its up there with the Comet and Caravelle in the stakes for the ugliest jet of all time. :diablo:

It’s the nose of the last two that I find so ugly and the 787’s nose is reminiscent of that, which was basically the same in the European duo.

The extreme bend in the wings and the tail shape is rather odd on the 787 too.

Better though than the original impressions of the earlier idea for the fin shape.:D

Plastic maybe , but you have to admit its a better looking airliner than anything Airbus has put in the air .

No, not at all. I’ve always believed in the old maxim that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. IMO, looks wise there is nothing remarkable about the 787, and no way can you describe that awful nose profile as beautiful.

Seen this as i was passing ringway this afternoon coming in to land….first time i have seen one, much smaller than i thought it would be.. pretty unremarkable looking aircraft imo…thought it was a 767 at first sight
Great pic tho
