Platan targeting pod?

Anyone have any information/pictures? All I know is that the Su-27IB and Yak-130 will employ it.

Konstantin Popovich, chief designer of Yakovlev Design Bureau, in Military Parade July 2002, in their “The Choice is Made” article about the Yak-130, says:

The armament suite includes the R-73 air-to-air IR-guided missile, the Kh-25 laser-guided air-to-surface missile and the KAB-50 [sic] gliding bomb (controlled by the Platan-type optronic pod attached to the ninth (centerline) pylon. In addition, the aircraft can carry B-8M and B-13 rocket pods, 250kg- and 500kg-bombs and a GSh-23 gun in the centerline pod.

I assume he meant KAB-500.

It is complemented by a Platan optoelectronic / laser targeting system

The effectiveness of the operation of guided aircraft weapons using a satellite’s signals will be tested during a regular stage of the Su-34 ?striker?s? tests. At the present moment there are no such foreign strike aircraft with similar capabilities.

Su-34 Tests Aircraft Weapons Aimed via Satellite

The effectiveness of the operation of guided aircraft weapons using a space satellite’s signals was tested during a regular stage of the Su-34 strike airplane?s tests, the president of Tekhnokompleks scientific and production center, Givi Dzhandzhgava reported on Tuesday, 2 March.

According to him, during the Su-34 tests “good results were received during navigational bombing with the aid of the ?Platan” complex’s optical system, and a record precision of combat use of aircraft weapons was achieved.

?In bombing precision, the performance is approximately five times higher than normal.

The results are commensurable with what is achieved with the use of bombs with a satellite guidance system,? Dzhandzhgava specified.
