MK356 does indeed have the wings from a mk16 and until its rebuild by arc had a merlin 266 fitted making it in theory a mk16.Its now fitted with the correct merlin 63
MK had a Merlin 500 series engine until she went to Arco for her major servicing plus respar she now has a Packard 266 installed and not a Merlin 63

Remember though, even though a Spit may be a mark XYZ that does not mean the wings they installed at build were built as MK XYZ, they may have an XYZ and a DFG wing fitted so to speak.

I’d always thought it was a Mk.XVI that donated its wings to MK356. AB910’s wings were rebuilt following the ground collision with the Harvard back in the 1980s.
Happy (and probably!) proved wrong, though!

I thought MK356 donated her wings to AB910?
so whose wings does she have now!!!
MK356 swapped wings with SL674 to reduce the restoration time/cost/labour to get it flying at St Athan for the BBMF.
MK732 donated some local structure of its wings to repair the damage to AB910 following its collision with the Harvard in Switzerland.
AB910 I would suggest still has basically its original wings.

wonder what others will emerge in time. Which stored Spits are in good condition and not needing a great deal of work? Which one donated its wings to AB910?

Yeah she was in the Bomber Command Hall for a little while. Great to see her back on display!
Yeah, I recall her being there in about 1990, I think…
