Pobjoy R 4 bladed prop?

Evening all,
A pal of mine recently acquired a cropped down prop hub, four bladed and stamped Pobjoy R. Stamped with various serial numbers P2300, D1760, AC 37588.Plus what looks to be a date stamp Apr 35?
From what I can gather most Pobjoy R’s fitted to various light aircraft types ran two bladed props, did come across a pic of a Monospar with a four blade. Any other likely candidates (a/c type) that might have used this?

Any info gratefully received..Chumpy.

Here’s a really long shot – how about it being the prop from the Pobjoy R that originally powered the Spartan Clipper G-ACEG (the R was replaced with a Niagara in 1938)? That has the right geographical connections, having been built by Spartan at East Cowes in 1932. The aeroplane was destroyed in an air raid on Cowes in 1942. Against that possibility is that all the photographs that I’ve seen of G-ACEG shows it with a two bladed prop – but I can’t say whether those photographs show G-ACEG with a Pobjoy R or Niagara up front.

Another pic showing some of the numbers, that might yield a clue?

Speaking with my pal seems the story goes like this, rumoured to have come from a crash at Ryde airport, when / what etc unknown. The largely intact prop kept in a house about a mile away from the airport for many years. Moving on many decades the cropped down hub surfaced, looks like the remaining blades have been sawn off more recently, maybe in the last 20 years or so?

Will probably remain a mystery, but who knows!

Hi all, Many thanks for the input so far, seems a Monospar of some type might be the favourite. The hub surfaced here on the Isle of Wight, yet to discover a local connection so could well have come from ‘north island’….thats IOW speak for the mainland!

Cheers, Chumpy.

Ah yes they probably had the Cataract or Niagara engines. It would be interesting to know if it surfaced anywhere near Hooton where Pobjoy Air Motors were.

The most common and most numerous type for this prop to have come off is the Monospar. The ST,4, ST.6, ST.10 and ST.11 were commonly fitted with the fine pitch four blade props.
