“A police officer is suing a petrol station owner after apparently tripping on a kerb on his property when called to reports of a break-in.”
——————————————————————————–
Seems a strange one on the surface.Probably more to it than meets the eye but even so.

Exactly the point I was making Gary, also WTSHTF you would feel you had to protect her, (Not being sexist) because she is a woman.

Trouble is if you went out to work with her you would end up looking over your shoulder to make sure you weren’t doing anything she could sue you for.Not a person to have on your side in a sticky situation when you need team work.

If “Coventry” still exists then I hope so!!
By: Lincoln 7 - 8th April 2013 at 15:36
Tell you what Chas, if she worked with me when I was in the Force, I would refuse point blank to let her double crew with me,She is a Bl***y liability to anyone unfortunate enough to work with her.I also wouldn’t be surprised if she hasn’t been sent to “Coventry” by her fellow Officers by now.

In can only hope you are right, Linc. She has done her employers no favours by her selfish and stupid actions.
By: Lincoln 7 - 8th April 2013 at 15:14
She is now going to sue her Police Force over a knee injury that she sustained in a Police car crash whilst on a high speed chase previous to falling off the kerb
Ian
Ian, This latest “Injury” will be her 3rd compensation claim. Even her own C.C. has apologised in public, for her compensation claims, so she has ruined her career.I don’t somehow think she will remain a Police Officer for much longer.

I’m afraid we have joined the American way of suing anyone for anything culture. In a restaurant several yrs ago,in the States, at the next table to us were two women, and one was stating she was suing her next door neighbour, because her dog had crapped on her lawn.

I hope an example is made of her, It’s a shame on her,….
Jim.

Indeed it should be. She has brought shame upon herself and deserves nothing but ridicule. She is an embarrassment to the force, to her colleagues, to her senior officers and most of all to the public she is supposed to serve.
By: Lincoln 7 - 2nd April 2013 at 09:13
Charlie, I agree, but to be charged with wasting Police Time, they, the Police Woman, and any member of the public has to “Waste” XXXX number of Police Hourse on the case, it’s not quite as simple as it seems, may even get the CPS involved also.
I hope an example is made of her, It’s a shame on her, and unfortunately the rest of her fellow Officers, but there again, when you sign on the dotted line, you should know that the unexpected will frequently happen. Sods Law dictates.:)

Why do so many now seem to feel that every incident is someone else’s fault and therefore responsible? or has the compo culture taken over completely?.[/QUOTE]
My feelings exactly! Yes it certainly has but only because litigation is successful. As I said above if the cases were thrown out the culture would rapidly dissipate and that would also mean less health and safety advice involvement in our lives. And a return to common sense – please!!
In this case I hope she fails, the case is thrown out and she is sacked for wasting time and taxpayers money.

I bet she will retire on the grounds of “Ill Health” brought about by the “Stress” the fall caused her, and the following enquiry.
Trouble is, is that she will still be able to draw her Police Pension, when she reaches a certain age.
She wouldn’t on my watch.

Has the perception of normal people regarding simple accidents changed so much?.
Many, many moons ago crossing a road carrying a crate, I slipped on some ice, went down pretty hard with my knee right on the edge of the kerb. This very neatly snapped my knee cap in two, that simple accident put me out of action for 9 months in total.
It never entered my head to attempt to claim from anyone, because I regarded it as an unlucky accident and frankly would still regard the incident in the same way.
Why do so many now seem to feel that every incident is someone else’s fault and therefore responsible? or has the compo culture taken over completely?.

Seeing as the Chief constable has spoken at his ‘dismay’, I can’t see PC Jones ever pinning up her sergeants stripes.
I’d like to be a little fly on the wall at her promotion board–should it ever come to pass.
They work in mysterious ways you now–their wonders to perform.

Charlie, it’s amusing to me because as I said plenty of people claim for this sort of thing. The only thing that makes a difference here is that she is an officer. Indeed she serves the public and paid for by the public but as officers also pay tax you can safely say they also pay for themselves.
As I said, I don’t agree with what she’s done, I certainly wouldn’t do it myself, but I do think that all the attention is just a little over the top. If she was an ordinary member of the public this would go ignored by the media and people in general, but the injustice of it all would still be the same effectively.
By: silver fox - 1st April 2013 at 19:57
I imagine her union will be funding the action, so she has nothing to lose.
Maybe she doesn’t really like her job, and is looking for a way out ?
According to the news she has no support whatsoever from within the force or the “union”, in fact a statement has been made declaring “disappointment” that this action has been taken.
By: charliehunt - 1st April 2013 at 16:48
I don’t agree with what the Constable has done. If it was me I would have just got up and carried on. As I said before, not all officers are like her.
However, what amuses me is if it was just an ordinary member of the public this wouldn’t even make the news and wouldn’t even be discussed on here. People make claims for stuff like this regularly, it’s the ‘in’ thing nowadays.
Why is it amusing? Of f course it wouldn’t make the news. As you say it happens regularly, so what is special about this case is that it is a policewoman – an individual in the public eye being paid by the public to serve them.

Yes but ordinary members of the public are not being paid a considerable amount of money to offer the rest of the tax paying public a service.
If you don’t want to spend your life running about about looking at scenes of crime, then don’t join ‘the filf’, and if you’re so stupid or otherwise retarded that you haven’t considered the risks attached, then you deserve all you get.
