Polikarpov Po-2 restauration photos

Hi all,

I am looking for Polikarpov Po-2/U-2 restoration photos, as I am interested in photos showing the interior details of this aircraft.
For example:
http://www.fighterfactory.net/airplane-gallery/polikarpov-po-2-photos.htm
Does anybody have more, higher resolution photos of this project or any similar project?

It’s incredible that of this aircraft so little information if available, as no less than 33,000 were built (making it the second most-built aircraft in history, after the Il-2 Sturmovik with 36k).

Luckily I found this fantastic manual (and recently bought it), which has amazing drawings in it:
http://aeropoxy.freeservers.com/PO-2.htm
Highly recommended for the real detail enthusiasts 🙂

But I also need construction photographs to make the picture complete (sorry fot the pun).

I hope anyone can help.

Thanks in advance,

Ronnie

BTW there is also a PO-2 (Polish built CSS-13) flying in Sweden, SE-XPP. It is based at Eskilstuna/Kjula.

David, I can send you the Po-2 manual in digital format. Just drop me an e-mail.
Alternatively you can download it yourself from here, but the connection is very slow and you’re likely to end up with half a manual:
http://twistairclub.narod.ru/u2/u2.djvu
To view this file you need: http://www.lizardtech.com/download/dl_options.php?page=viewers
(I have two similar manuals for the Yakovlev UT-2, by the way)

I bet your Po-2 will be finished way before mine, as mine’s currently on hold. Too many other projects to do, such as the Corsair, more Mustangs and soon the Fw 190 A-8.

Oleg, if you happen to read this, I am still interested in those Po-2 restoration photos you once promised, as I do like to finish this projects… one day 😉

PO- 2 manual link doesn’t work

Ronnie:

I have PO-2 project started also except mine is to build a 1/3 scale radio control PO-2. I have the perfect engine for it, the RCS 215 5 cylinder radial gas engine (www.rcshowcase.com)

The link you listed for the manual is not working …any ideas?. I have only 1/25 drawings I got from the Washington D.C Smithsonian, which is usually a good source , but they didn’t have much on this bird. There are lots of exterior photos on the web but very few interior pics.

The 3-d rudder you did is fantastic! I suspect that it takes you as long to draw that as it takes me to build it from balsa and ply!

green – or as we talk in Russia “protctive” color wqas very popular at SU. 95% of lorry and truck was green too and seems that such paint made very much and it was very accessible. Because wheels in flight usually inside the airplane – so color was green 🙂 Like a first Ford cars – color may be different if it is black 😉

😀 😀 I like your humour. Do you have any pictures of any other Russian historic aircraft? If so, I am sure we would appreciate seeing them especially if the quality is as good as the pics you posted here.

The green on wheelhubs is a specially designed paint that absorbs the heat from the brake discs really well.

No, I am only joking! Sorry! 😀 I don’t have a clue. Maybe Oleg has an answer?

It seems that in near future the Major of Moscow will closed famous airfield at Tuchino. I am based in Tuchino but not at airfield – my workshop is near airfield. So I am not sure that you can see any new warbird at Tushino airfield. Only around 🙂

I well know guys from Myachikovo, but I am based at Moscow Tushinio. Now our Po-2 at Murmansk (at North of Russia) and we build 4th and 5th Po-2.

What happened to the airshows at Tushino ?? – we haven’t been to one for many years.

I visit Moscow on aviation trips every year – I was at Monino for ‘Flying Legends’ last August – and we are visiting Moscow again in August for MAKS.

We are also going to Lipetsk.

Is there anything now at Tushino to see ?? I have visited a few times, but since they stopped doing the airshows, there was only sports aircraft – and a few old An-2’s there.

Oleg, I am sending you an e-mail right now. Thanks!

Franck, good to see you here too 🙂

Stieglitz, not sure about the Shuttleworth CSS-13. Last year there were problems I remember but this year she should fly. Here’s a pic I took in the spring:
