Does anybody have any information on Aviation Archeology in Poland? The reason I ask is that I was recently in Przemysl (South East Poland) and meet with a very interesting Guy who has recovered several large pieces of various JU 87″s including a complete tail unit.
I have also been informed about 2 sites that contain the remains of a PZL P11c and a Karas.
If anybody is interested in more details please PM me
Many thanks in advance

sixties and scrapped?Cheers

Hi, I’m new on this forum so hello everybody.
Cees, regarding your question, the Ju-188 was recovered in August 1961 in Mamry lake by “Rekin” (Shark) diving club. Plane’s position was determined based on informations from fishermen. Divers found this Junkers on 12 meters depth, standing on the bottom of the lake “like on an airfield”. This was recon version Junkers Ju-188 D2, werk: 150520, manufactured on October 9’th 1944. The plane was forced to land on frozen lake in January 1945 with one broken engine (crew survived) and sunk short after that. Unfortunatelly 1950s and 1960s was not the best time for such explorations and Junkers, as “politically incorrect” was simply scrapped. As far as I know the only thing which survived is one (or maybe two) camera disassembled from the plane by one of the divers.
