Polish Spitfire Recovery – Lincolnshire/Yorkshire?

I am trying to find some details relating to a Spitfire possibly recovered (or partially recovered) in Lincolnshire or possibly Yorkshire some many years ago.

The pilot is said to have been Polish, and may have been recorded as missing.

I have a feeling that Ken Ward might have been involved – but he is rather beyond any reach at present in terms of posing the question.

Can anyone throw any light on this rather vague outline of a story?
