Panic that drove Britain to slaughter 750,000 family pets in one week.
Sad story, but perhaps understandable in the circumstances.

Wish you would name and shame him/her.
Yes we have front line drops £100 for the dogs and cats.

Use “Frontline” to kill and prevent fleas on your cats and dogs.
Lincoln7. Pleased to hear that you take responsibility for your fishing and the mess of others!
SNAFU – “national radio DJ” – Big surprise there….

I suppose it’s the “a pet is not just for Christmas” syndrome.
If you are careful it can last all the way to the new year.
Boxing Day sandwiches, 27th curry, 28th roast, 29th stew…;o)
Gary, I have spoken to friends who have pets, and we all say it’s the worst year anyone can remember for pets catching Fleas. Where do they come from?
Well, a mummy flea and a daddy flea who love each other very much…;o)
Initially its irresponsible pet owners who don’t practice anti flea measure themselves that help fuel the problem. We have cats (waits whilst you bu@@ers howl and spit) and in the early spring we had a problem because the feral morons next door ignored the fact that their cats (started off as one female, but since she is on her third litter I’d hazard a guess that she hasn’t been spayed) were infested. Our vet keeps banging on about the fact that fleas take little time to become immune to the latest medication, but by simply putting cheap flea collars on the cats (not the fleas before someone says it) we managed to cut down the numbers to something close to manageable.
Not sure about dogs, but if you have foxes in your locality (if the local hunt hasn’t ‘accidentally’ eradicated them) then they could pass the fleas on (indirect transfer).
As for vets bills… I could tell you a tale (best not name anybody) about a very well known national radio DJ’s dog that was well on the road to recovery from some problem that I can’t remember, who wasn’t charged for the treatment so that he would appear on the vets client list, who one day simply decided he ‘wasn’t interested anymore’ and (despite apparent pleas that the hound was going to be fine, or even that they could find another home for it without problem) asked for it to be put down immediately.
Sticks in my craw…
Other owners were being charged five figure sums for treatment to their dogs, and yet he was not interested anymore.

And those who genuinely love pets should bear in mind their responsibilities . But many only love the idea of having a pet and as in many areas of life possess no sense of responsibility at all.

I agree Chas, And now that Christmas is just around the corner, I feel that there will be a lot more Pets taken away or “Lost” a few months afterwards.

That and simply bored with the responsibility. Of course there is an answer to it but not one welcome to pet lovers..!

No thanks! very commendable, David, but one has to wonder why so many animals are abandoned and left to roam or end up in animal hostels. I suppose it’s the “a pet is not just for Christmas” syndrome.
I guess the answer is Chas that folks just cannot afford to feed their pets, plus any Vets fees they may need.

Gary, I have spoken to friends who have pets, and we all say it’s the worst year anyone can remember for pets catching Fleas. Where do they come from?. I have lost count of just how much we have spent on good Flea killer for both our dogs, but the little bu***rs keep coming back.

Dare not tell you how much I spent on one of the dogs when he swallowed a fish hook on the beach!
That used to annoy me more than anything, Having been Sea Angling in all it’s forms, I went Beach fishing, many is the time I have picked up a discarded trace with hook/s still attached, and also all the stripped line some Pillock has left on the beach after clearing his reel after getting a birds nest. Why they can’t take it home with them I will never know.

I am grandfather to pets and the majority of their circle of friends has acquired dogs or cats or both as to almost give the impression of it being the thing to do, without a great deal of thought being given to the implications. As a result I am well aware of the costs.

Pets are bought home when people can afford them.In time you only need to lose your job and the luxuries go out of the window.
I have just spent a total of £400 on treatment for a cat and treatment for fleas on all the pets, hopefully the insurance will cover most of it but even so.
Don’t get me wrong theres a lot of ignorance and bad owners but even those who love their pets have to make a tough choice.
Just remember if human health was to go down the same route of costs or insurance if we lost the NHS–frightening isn’t it.

Try living in Spain! They are everywhere!
I have now taken in two abandoned dogs and two abandoned cats in the space of a year!

Very sad for their owners of course but I sometimes feel we are overrun with cats and dogs – certainly around here.
