Poor Mutt, if you're a tad sensitive avoid looking.

Glad to see that he’s going to get rebuilt…. Brave little doggy.

I agree with Ben, the animal should have been be put down.
But, it’s a personal issue – if the owners want to keep the dog alive that’s their call.

In the same way a child’s parents might want to turn off the life support machine keeping their terminally ill son alive, others might want to keep it on.

My Grandad told me that when he was in the RAF in WW2 one of the dogs on the base jumped up near a spinning propeller and had its face chopped off, but that dog didn’t survive. I hope surgery will help this dog somehow.

I’ve never owned a dog, but I like these two pictures.

This one also shows dogs as loyal caring animals, so glad it worked out for them

My best friend, “Poppy”, was with me when I was cleaning my pond out a couple of yrs ago, The pond is quite deep, and very large. It’s 2 feet above ground level, and made of concrete blocks and fiberglass lined. As I turned, I slipped and fell backwards, and landed on the edge of the pond and then on the ground. I was in pain, and could hardly breath, and unable to move. Poppy, somehow knew I had been injured, and started barking, my wife was upstairs ironing and didn’t hear Poppy barking.
That dog, then went into the house, up the stairs, and according to my wife, barked her head off at her, and tugged at her trouser leg, until my wife came down, Poppy took her to me, still on the ground. An Ambulance was sent for, and it was found I had cracked two ribs.
I have no doubt whatsoever, that there are many similar stories like that, which can be told.
Dogs and their owners, get very close to each other.
Jim.

They look healthy and happy in those pictures.

I’d say it’s a bit of both. It’s companionship. Quite honestly, I like just getting out walking in the forest with mine. You can take time to think about things in your head, but you don’t feel alone walking for miles.

Lovely dogs there, Kev. They are so cute 🙂
We had to have our yorkshire terrier put to sleep in February as he had prostate cancer. He was 16 and a half years old. The house still doesn’t seem right without him.

No, you don’t want to see them suffer, which is why exactly a year ago this coming Sunday I made the decision that my old boy Duke Had to be euthanased. Brain cancer. I had him the day after my Mom’s funeral and he was the epitome of the constant companion.

Four days after I lost Dukydog, this little tyke joined the family…..

He’s called Deefer and is another rescue, as was Duke. I sometimes wonder whether I’m rescuing them or whether it’s them rescuing me.

The more immediately humane thing would have been to put the dog to sleep. However, it is equally heart-warming to see that the dog will now receive the medical attention it needs to live a normal life.

I do have my own dog, and I know you can become quite attached to them.

Still, as much love as there may be, do you really want to see them suffer?

I have missed our chats Kev 🙂

I dont like this story at all. Dogs do save people, they are good trackers, they can alert people to fires, they may even fight to protect an owner. what they do not do is jump in front of moving vehicles to save people. This not an episode of Lassie. It is much more likely the dog was just following the children across the road.
At best I hope this family are deluded but I fear they have/are allowing an animal to suffer for their own benefit.
The dog will be in pain, have trouble breathing, have trouble eating and has lost its sense of smell (which is nearly as important as sight to a dog)

It is making me more angry the more I read it so to cut this conversation short I will say, orrrrr thats so sweet, what a brave dog, those people are so kind and generous to look after it.

Don’t be a twonk. I just said it’s a lot to lose in seven years. Not casting any opinions as to why. I’ve seen photo’s of your dogs in various threads and they all looked great so don’t come with that one.

Your point being?

The dog survived somehow. The family didn’t have it put to sleep because they loved it, the rest came after.

Seven dogs in seven years? I generally only manage to lose one every ten to fifteen years.

Come on Kev.

“Bunggal exclaimed: “She has become a superstar. People come here to have their photos taken with the dog. Some came with medicines and vitamins.” Bunggal said one visitor even brought roasted pig for Kabang. Bunggal said: “Some people came bringing in clothes, a little money for us. We are so thankful. We did not ask for those things, but still we are thankful.”

Its best not to judge people if you do not know them.

Exactly. A courtesy you chose not to give to the family of the dog in the original posting.

In the last seven or so years I have buried as many dogs. Every one of them meant more to me than most humans.

One day, given the chance to attain real adulthood, you might come to understand how some humans feel about a dog that saves the life of one of the family.

That dog should have been put to sleep as soon as the accident happened.

Without a shadow of a doubt, mans best friend, so why shouldn’t we show our appreciation at times like this.
