Poor Yeovilton Photocall Day

What happened at Yeovilton today? There were very few arrivals, and only two planes (apart from the usual chopper setpiece) practiced.

Being locked into the ground, it meant we were left sitting actually for hours with nothing going on. There were several cheers for (I think it must have been) the Chinook’s tug, which passed by a couple of times – and the crows put on a more enthralling display.

We caught a distant glimpse of the Sea Vixen and Gnat being towed across the airfield, but almost everything that arrived landed very short, and were smartly put into the static display area 🙁

An interesting landing by the glider saw it land short, but manage to roll the entire length of the runway and stop before lowering the wing gently to the ground. There must be some virtually frictionless bearings in that one wheel!

Unusually, landing was from right to left this year, so very little came into the range of the majority of the cameras.

I did manage to get a couple, which I’ll put up a little later.

Still. It was friendly!

Can’t blame the weather much – while it wasn’t sunshine and roses all day, the rain held off until 6pm (which happened to conincide with the start of the setpiece  )
