Popham Aero/autojumble, Monday May 6th 2013

Blimey, only a few days to go and no-one has started a thread yet (all right, I know it’s usually me anyway!).

Wasn’t sure I was going to be able to attend this year but I’ll be giving it a go after all.

Good weather makes a world of difference to this event so here’s hoping for something half decent and a good turn out on monday for the Classic Car Show, the ‘jumble and the fly-in, etc. The Microlighters deserve a decent weekend’s weather too after the last few years.

Some of us hardy ‘jumblers will be there all three days so I look forward to seeing and chatting to a fair few of you!

See some of Gokone’s photos in some of the previous threads for a taster of this event!

The canopy looks a little like the example that the Sevenside Aviation Society recovered in the early 1980’s and was pictured in FlyPast.

In a Generation Game remembering style: a repro early two fuel gauge Spit panel, an Adour engine label, some big Rpm gauges for my Vulcan panel and a bag of books, poring over for the use of. Didn’t buy any of the pile of £100 rusty Spit legs or the laughable £750 Hurricane panel which Dave pointed out.

Yes Dave, i’m interested in somemore pics of it. Looks like a nice item. What was the asking price out of curiosity?

Didn’t get to go to this one unfortunately and with my interest in Typhoons it was a shame I missed out on an opportunity with the canopy. Does anyone know if it sold? anyone know who the seller was? You never know it may be someone who posts on the forum…

Sounds like it was a nice event. I have only attended once – a few years ago – and always wanted to go back but what with Cockpit Fest almost round the corner and the project nowhere near presentable I have to choose my events when the pressure is on.

The weather in the NW has been great this BH weekend (there’s one in the eye for those who say it always p****s down:D). Looks and sounds like it was pretty good at Popham, too. That Tempest canopy was nice. It never ceases to amaze me what little nuggets turn up at, seemingly, every a/jumble.

Thanks for the call, GOKONE, about the Phantom stuff. Much appreciated – and I owe you one (and some dosh!).

Anon.

A great day out again, and unusually hot! Fewer stalls but some nice items. Missed out on something I’ve always wanted by seconds. A set of B17 chin turret controls. Bums. Did find a MkIX Spit prop blade at a car boot sale yesterday so not complaining. Good to meet and chat with some fellow forumites. Roll on Cockpitfest! That canopy was impressive Dave, a dangerous way to start a project though, top down! FlyBuy, you have an email, something on ebay.

Indeed, just got back from a wonderful day out. Especially with more Harrier paraphernalia. 🙂

Highlight had to be the Typhoon/Tempest canopy, although the Hurricane panel was expensive i thought considering it only had around 20% of its gauges

Great day out today at the Popham aerojumble. Lots of sunshine, ideal spacious location with flying aircraft overhead. Good to catch up with fellow collectors, lots of nice aerobillia items for sale, I must admit the mix of aerojumble and autojumble go pretty well together! Well worth attending if anyone hasn’t been before.

Popham 2013 Aero/Autojumble + Fees Q

Well thx for sorting out a previous thread for us yer bugga! Very well then it looks like I’ll have to cut one below, let’s hope the weather holds as of today. Unfortunately the new doubled entrance, pitch and landing fees were keenly felt from inception last year, with a row less of stalls than in 2011.

Many feel the on-going recession and high fuel costs saw people clearly voting with their wallets last year and rejecting it, so the airfield management are risking killing the goose – and yet bike rally fees stay at the old price –

The airfield website says that The airfield is biker friendly and this largely due to the fact that the airfield manager is a lifelong motorcyclist and encourages bikers to visit the airfield.” By maintaining favourable older fees for those events, a regular dealer there feels they are far more encouraging, than Aeromarters and Autojumble/General traders, who seem to be penalized on higher fees, and in effect subsidizing the bikers.

Is the airfield trying to tell us something or attempting engineer a situation whereby a few years down the line ‘due to falling demand’ (as opposed to hiked fees) ‘its not viable anymore’?

Here’s a link to some previous Popham Goings-On anyway:

Googling for some New Forest based camping this weekend before a bright and early Monday jumble start. Have been looking forward to it! See you there.
