Popham Aerojumble 5th May Cancelled!

Just read this on Popham’s own website….

2008 Microlight Trade Fair & Aero/Auto Jumble postponed.

Due to the amount of rainfall over the last few days, Popham Airfield is totally waterlogged and the current forecasts predict that it will NOT dry out before the weekend. We deeply regret any inconvenience caused but will unfortunately now have to postpone the entire event where we will re-schedule it, probably with a normal fly-in.

More news on the re-scheduled date will follow here as we have it.

Anyone that does still intend to fly-in will get a free landing but with the current rain please check beforehand as the field may still be too wet to use even for aircraft!

A shame, especially as I have spent the last week preparing for it, but I’m sure Dick will be able to re-arrange it eventually.

On teletext, a PA-28 Piper Cherokee overshot the Popham runway late on Saturday evening and lost its wings ,both occupants ok. So I presume the state of the airfield has alot to do with the cancellation.

Just a last minute bump in case anyone has missed this news.

I would hate to hear of anyone making the journey only to find an empty field.

Here’s hoping. Popham in April can be cold and windy, even when it is dry. I seem to recall that the September events, when they had them, were almost always better weather-wise.

That’s Whitwick been and gone, Popham postponed, so what’s the next one?

Ah yes, Newark’s Cockpitfest/Aeroboot in June. Doubtless TwinOtter23 will be along to remind us on a regular basis! 😀

With an observation like that it would be churlish to disappoint; latest details from their website….:D :diablo:

Perhaps moving it to later in the summer season is better and should be considered as a permanent change

Popham is very hit and miss with the weather, I have bad memories of wasted journeys which is a shame for such a great venue.

A real shame but not a total surprise – the airfield was very wet at the last fly-in in April and it has not had a chance to dry out.

its a shame, but it did rain last year which put a “dampner” on it, its usually a great day out, have been ever since my son could walk, always spend too much….
