Popham 'jumble May 4th

Well if they are from a napier sabre engine they are rare, one thought this was a sleeve valve engine!!

A valve is a valve, be it sleeve or otherwise!

Please don’t tell me there were any Piper J3 ailerons there, I’m in need of a pair! Was going to go (have for the last 3 years) but alas some domestic duties kept me away! Anyone have a couple of ailerons on the go?….

By contrast, some of the “autojumblers”…

I stopped going to Popham after one event (2003?) when all there seemed to be were autojumble stalls with the odd aerojumble stall mixed-in. Part of the problem was that it was a long way to go for me, and my budget is finite, but that never stopped me going to Shoreham.

but I was told they were Napier engine Valves ???.. What other engines did Napier Make during the War ????

If it was the stall i seen he was trying to sell the punters a Rolls royce merlin starter motor that was hardly big enough to fit a ford model T, mind you there is always one dull enough to pick it up going on what the label says

The best stall there was the burger van, certainly the field to be selling in during the recession:D

An ignition testing switchbox for the Sabre (and Vulture) engine, as fitted in the cockpit of the Typhoon, etc.

Only about the third I’ve seen in as many decades.

Can’t recall much else of particular merit as the aerojumblers were still arriving when I decided to open my stall at about 9.30, so I probably missed loads of stuff.

By contrast, some of the “autojumblers” tend to arrive around 10-11 pm the night before, then annoy the hell out of everyone trying to nod off by setting their stalls up ’til 1 a.m. They’ve probably spent the evening in the pub getting tanked up before spending the night in a greasy, freezing cold, knackered old Transit van.

The same ‘jumblers disappear rapidly once the selling starts to drop off, usually leaving a field full of beer and burger debris behind them.

Not the sort of chaps I would wish to see invited to a “significant” aviation venue in Cambridgeshire (or anywhere else). 🙂

Having just read the new edition of Flypast magazine I can answer my own question which I raised yesterday. It appears that the Brooklands aerojumble is on the 19th July 2009.

Pretty Much a Complete Seahawk instrument Panel, Looked Nice… The chap on here with the Seahawk cockpit, and Firefly cockpit owns it , (sorry I keep forgetting your name etc) Lives in Newton abbott, 😀

Keep watching the forum, aerojumblers!

I will soon to be able confirm (hopefully!) whether I will be organising an autumn aerojumble at a “significant” aviation venue in Cambridgeshire.

I don’t know if it counts as advertising and would cause a problem with Key etc, but if anybody has a stall at an event would they/could they put details on here ? I must have spoken to some of you yesterday and not known – just an idea on the name to faces type thing !?

XM692 – our stand was on the same side as the mini railway but further to the right – (next to Aviation Hobby Shop. Walked along that area several times for emergency tea and doughnut runs!

It was a cracking event but cold!! Thanx to peeps I bought from and sold to. Thanx to the organisers and Dick who is a star and thanx to the owners and operators of some crackers including a ‘toy’ Fw190 (very cute), F-TANG and the others….
