Porte-Avions 2 for France.. any new news?

so have the French decided on simply adopting the new design the Brits will use? seems that the design itself was intended to be easily configured with a ski jump or a catapult.

it looks for me like a non-sense to install both cat and sky jump ?!

the interest of the VSTOL or STOBAR is them no need cat, and then, they can go almost anywhere flat.

but if you have allready a carrier fitted with Catapult for the E 2-C, why for God sake not use them for the fighter/bomber ??

No, you’ve missed the point. The carriers are to be equipped FOR BUT NOT WITH catapults. i.e. they will be built so that catapults can easily be fitted, but they will not, to start with, actually have catapults. The ski-jumps will also be built so they can be removed.

it can be F35, F18, or Rafales

evens the F35B is cancel or are to expensives, you still have the Rafales or F18 way

Apparetly the answer is yes. I red some article on the subject on Air&Cosmos. France and GB have managed to reach an agreement. The only problem is the kind of plane GB want : VTOL JSF or CTOL JSF ? that’s why the carrier could have both skijump and catapult.
The idea is apparently first skijump+ AEW helicopter, then catapult+ E-2 (for Gret Britain). The program depends on the problems on British JSF (waivers)

The UK version of CVF has always been meant to be equipped for catapults. It is assumed that the carriers will last longer than the JSF, & making them suitable for catapults, so they can be relatively easily retrofitted, is insurance against there being no suitable STOVL replacement. Of course, it’s also insurance against F-35B being cancelled, or failure to reach agreement on purchase terms.

Seems so. A few months ago they agreed to pay a third of what had been spent on design work so far, to buy in, & pay the same share of ongoing work until the end of 2006. About £100 million – which suggests they mean it.

BTW Berlusconi – ciao! Unless the exit polls are very wrong. 😀
