Possible F-35 UK sighting

Just arrived in the UK a few days ago and have a very interesting aircraft pair sighting confirmed by 4 people.

My farther, an avid aviation enthusiast, first told me of the sighting. It occurred roughly 3 weeks ago, morning in the UK Cheshire area of Mow Cop located near Macclesfield. Tornado’s, hawks, C-130’s usually fly past, a few a month, quite low level some of which I understand head to BAE Systems Woodford.

However these two aircraft were identified to have twin tails, a single engine and very loud. They headed across my family home, very fast (apparently the sound was far louder than usual tornado’s etc..and the speed not far off a “fast airshow pass”) and very low and as many usual types do they returned around half an hour later again to fly back the way they came. My farther was certain they had twin tails and a large single engine.

I was slightly skeptical at first, maybe an F-18 derivative as their engines are spaced very close together and he could have been mistaken. But my farther was adamant it was not an F-18, F-15 which he’s seen for countless years.

I didn’t think much of it until today when I popped down to see my local car mechanic and his son, good friends and aircraft enthusiasts. After a brief car talk he eagerly asked if I had seen the jets, to which I replied no as I wasn’t in the UK at the time but mentioned my farther did, to which he confirmed they had seen them too and they had certainly 1 engine and twin fins and were very loud, much louder than any normal jets that fly over. Again they were sure it wasn’t anything they had seen before and they had been going to airshows for decades.

Being quite a big aviation enthusiast myself I can only think of one jet with twin fins and a single engine, the F-35. I am not aware of any jets visiting the UK however as I thought they are all US based atm.

Any thoughts?
