Just read about a possible airport near me (Caldicot) to replace both Bristol and Cardiff. If made it would put Bristol out of business very soon and I don’t think WAG (Welsh Assembly Government) like Cardiff Airport. If WAG were to finance this it would be great for the economy of South Wales and would be well connected (think of it’s positioning, easy to add a dedicated motorway junction and a railway station).
Opinions?

Filton is situated between the M32, M4 and M5 and the main line from London Paddington to South Wales via the Severn Tunnel passes within a few hundred yards of the airfield perimeter.
So yes. 🙂
Sorry GA I meant a Severnside Airport 😉

Somewhat off-topic, but has there been any more rumblings of the Thames estuary airport?
It didn’t sound like it was developing in a productive direction, but I haven’t heard anything for a while…?

Could it get passengers from further afield with such good transport links?

You’re right, of course.
But this shows what a short-sighted decision it was to develop Lulsgate rather than Filton.

They should have, but they couldn’t do it now that they’ve built up all around. I doubt all those people would want aircraft flying over their house every five minutes. :p

They should have developed Filton. Long runway, right beside the motorway and railway.

On the face of it, it sounds to be a good idea. It might attract United Airlines back, and perhaps even Emirates might be interested in serving the region.
