Possibly Twenty-Seven Dead in US School Shooting-Spree

Early reports suggest many children are dead in another US school shooting-spree:

Yes, it is (archaic crap), I agree.

What frightens me is the amount of traction pro-gun views have in the US. They come from the same school of thought, I suspect, that thinks that universal free healthcare is communist or that Obama is an African-born Muslim

Following the story on the Today Programme over the last day or two, the gun lobby have been vociferous in their support for the status quo. I don’t think the fact that all those children being murdered in cold blood is going to change anything.

That said, I hope that Obama, now that he doesn’t have to face re-election, will be bold and try to do something. It will be difficult, though, and the gun lobby will punish the next Democrat presidential candidate in 2016, but there are times when something simply has to be done because it is right – and this is one of them.

No Mr T, I fear he is real and genuine.
Look at his history and read his posts elsewhere.

While I’m very sorry for the small children killed and the others too, my view is this.
If you’re daft enough to permit laws where you can buy an assault rifle in a corner shop, tolerate an education system where someone like the contributor above can call himself educated and still reckon that you’re a superpower–then you deserve everything you get.

I like America, I know some of them and have been there much in the past, but come on.
The second amendment was framed back in 1700 & something.
Do you really think this women (the boy’s Mother) really needed to own an assault rifle because she might called when they raise a state militia..?

In the same way, I keep a man trap and some manacles, in case one of my slaves tries to escape and I always keep some handy kindling in the house in case the five year old boy I employ to sweep the chimneys gets stuck up there and I need to shift him.

It’s archaic crap.

Andy.

I wonder if Thaddeus’s post is not intended to be serious, but is satirising a reference made by some berk from the National Rifle Association (the major gun lobby in the US for those unfamiliar with gun-control issues there) that had the school not been a gun-free zone, an armed teacher could have stopped the gunman in his tracks before he did too much damage.

An absurd point of view if ever there was one.

Seriously, that’s the single most disturbing post I’ve ever read on this forum!

This from PPP the last time the topic was discussed must run it a close second-

The odd massacre here or there is irrelevant, they are one off situations that involve crazy people and are not something policy should be based around

What is more sinister is that a democratic country can produce people that are so mentally disturbed they can kill their parents, women and children.
Also this person has been described as evil. That is just a way of passing the blame. “Oh, he was evil that’s why he did it”. Rubbish. Mentally disturbed, brain washed, psychotic, the inevitable product of a failed capitalist society yes.

Absolute, utter, total, political hogwash; was the Chinese man, who stabbed so many, a member of a “democratic country,” and “the inevitable product of a failed capitalist society?”
Was he heck; people get mentally disturbed, in all walks of life, and trying to excuse, or compartmentalise, them, by blaming a particular political system, is another nice neat way of sweeping the problem under the carpet. Too often we read of the mentally ill being turfed out onto the streets, to let others look after them, to save a little money, and, when they go off the rails completely, we’re told, “Lessons will be learnt.” Yes, right, until the next time, of course.

I think banning guns is a knee jerk reaction and one that is never going to happen, or could happen in the US. How would you police it. Would take hundreds of years to rid the country of all it’s guns. That’s not to say guns shouldn’t be banned, I just don’t think it will happen.

What is more sinister is that a democratic country can produce people that are so mentally disturbed they can kill their parents, women and children. It can’t just be the availability of guns that causes this situation. It must be something deeper.

Also this person has been described as evil. That is just a way of passing the blame. “Oh, he was evil that’s why he did it”. Rubbish. Mentally disturbed, brain washed, psychotic, the inevitable product of a failed capitalist society yes. Evil, no such thing.

If you need any explanation at all for the continuing slaughter of the innocents in the US you only have to look at Thaddeus’s posting.

Barely literate, totally lacking in any serious logic and convinced anything can be solved by more and bigger guns.

It’s horribly sad.

This seems to be an all too common occurrence in the States.

My condolences to the families of the victims, and to the pupils, their parents and the teachers – they must be in a complete state of shock. Very unpleasant for such young children!

…arming teachers? Yeah, that’ll go down like a house on fire

Dude, seriously,

And that is the attitude which ensures that events such as this will continue. The choice of Oddball as an avatar seems, in this case, to be entirely appropriate.

Dude, seriously,

Grow up for Gods sake man!

My heart goes out to the families and friends of those victims. Sadly, until the 2nd Ammendment is consigned to history, these poor souls won’t be the last.

But that still not an excuse to be so brainless as to say things like that (Thaddeus). As the old saying goes. IF YOU HAVE NOWT GOOD TO SAY THEN DONT SAY NOWT AT ALL.

Far fetched? In at least two previous shooting-sprees the shootings were carried out by students.

And unfortunately Warren, it won’t be the last.

Dude, seriously, how many times does this have to happen before the dumb teachers smarten up and start packin’?

And can someone tell me why the students aren’t being trained to attack when they see a stranger with a gun?

Seriously, that’s the single most disturbing post I’ve ever read on this forum!

…if just ONE teacher would’ve been armed this maniac could’ve been put down before he could get a shot off.

How exactly? Are the teaching staff supposed to conduct their classes at gunpoint?

In answer to your question, if you were serious; what if the perpetrator, or perpetrators, of such a shooting-spree were students at the school or college in question?

Far fetched? In at least two previous shooting-sprees the shootings were carried out by students.

Thaddeus are you serious your self????????, Is that meant to be funny or constructive in the slightest??. The kids are 6-8 year olds!!. they go to school to learn and educate themselves for a normal enjoyable life. Not the scitzo one you live in.. What kind of a school did you go to? . Not a normal one by the sounds of it.

Even if they were older teens in a dodgy school with lots of gangs in the area etc. What your talking abouts is an arms race, Trouble with that is if everyone starts carrying guns (WTF for in a school?) then the next step would be more fire power, Grenades etc

Dude, seriously, how many times does this have to happen before the dumb teachers smarten up and start packin’? I mean c’mon, if just ONE teacher would’ve been armed this maniac could’ve been put down before he could get a shot off.
And can someone tell me why the students aren’t being trained to attack when they see a stranger with a gun? I mean c’mon a whole class room full of kids with the proper training should be able to disarm and subdue an attacker fairly easily.
