Post Digital Loss of BBC Channels

(In answer to Moggy’s question from the ‘Operation Mincemeat’ thread.)

I’ve got a Freeview box and prior to the digital switchover date it worked fine for all the BBC output with the exception of BBC4. Post switchover the only thing from the BBC working is BBC4!

I live in an area that hasn’t got particularly good TV reception but I wondered if a new set-top-box would solve the problem; I’ve done an automatic re-tune that didn’t fix the problem.

…the biggest culprits are set-top-boxes costing under £50…..followed by a wonky ariel.

Check…..and…..check! 😮

Also, wiggle the ariel connector(s) whilst you are watching one of the Ch. you can get. If you get a serious picture frazzle/lines etc. then the connection is rubbish.
Solder the inner copper wire inside the the pin of the connector. It is 50% the diameter of the hollow pin, you’re lucky if it touches the inside of the pin twice. This needs doing up at the roof end as well, but too late for that LoL.

Thanks for that advice; it restored all my BBC channels! 😀

Still can’t get Film4 or Yesterday to work though.

Yeah it took me awhile to get them back! Maybe try re-tuning once more and see if that solves it? Thats how I got mine back.

It’s called Mux drop off.
The “4” group of Ch. are on the same Mux IIRC…..you can find about them on the net.

And, unless somebody tells me different, the biggest culprits are Set top boxes costing under £50, followed by a wonky ariel.

I done a factory reset on the box, then 2 auto retunes and all channels restored.. Good luck.

When we had the switch over back in March I lost ITV4, More4, Film4, 4Music and a few others. I tried a re-tune, didnt do anything. So I left it a few weeks and tried again and all the channels had come back.
I have read things on the net that some people have had to re-tune TV’s up to 10 times before getting all channels back.

Mine suffered the same fate but having read Tartan’s post I’ll have to try that solution.

Had a similar problem with the digital teletext missing from BBC2 when ours went modern. With a separate tv reading from a new digi-box in one room, and a state of the art flat screen with integrated digital tuner in another room, we still had problems even though we are less than 20 miles and in line-of-sight of the Wells transmitter. The tv reception itself was excellent but text only worked on BBC1.

Had to re-scan the channels on several occasions over a period of several weeks before we were able to see teletext on all BBC channels.

I had a problem with mine, only receiving BBC1, 2, & 4. No commercial channels. After a bit of internet searching found that my aerial was receiving too much power and that a low/high power selection was available in the setup routine. No problem now.
Seems strange that too much power restricts receipt but what do I know. Would still prefer analogue.

Re-tune probably wont do it… I done just that and was still left with same missing channels. I done a factory reset on the box, then 2 auto retunes and all channels restored.. Good luck.
