Post war Aircraft surplus catalogue.

I was browsing in a local antiques centre last week and came across this surplus catalogue from Magalow Trading company.
It lists by Section and Ref A whole range of surplus kit from electrical parts to flying clothing. There’s an American section at the back and sections on Army and Admiralty surplus.
The only aircraft I can that’s named by type is in a small section on Miles Martinet and Master spares.

Here’s a few photos of random pages, if anyone would like a photo of a specific page just let me know.

Just imagine having access to a catalogue like this these days! ๐Ÿ˜€

AirMin might be the best person to take on its scanning and transfer to a format usable to others.

Sorry AirMin….didn’t mean to ‘volunteer’ you, although it seems I just have!

It’s already in hand. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I for one would like to see the whole thing as well. In particular what all the instruments on offer are.

๐Ÿ˜ฎ Sorry, perhaps a misunderstanding on my part.

From what Iโ€™ve been told the โ€˜surplus salesโ€™ at RAF Balderton took place over extended periods, with locals being employed to act as escorts when people and companies came to view the items stored on the former airfield site. However Iโ€™m not sure what organisation was behind the process.

Iโ€™ll do a bit more digging with both the relatives and a local history group that is currently looking at raising a Memorial on the former airfield site.

Someone called – sadly they haven’t booked a table for March 12th ๐Ÿ™‚

Weren’t these types of sale fairly common in times gone by?

My late father’s adoptive family tell many tales of massive sales at RAF Balderton just before the runways were ripped up to allow for the โ€˜duallingโ€™ of the A1 in the late 1950s / early 1960s IIRC – “Miles of wooden crates covering all the runways and taxiways!”

Perhaps it was all those Australian Spitfires!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

This isn’t a catalogue for an auction sale. They were a business dealing in ministry surplus stuff, and this is just their catalogue showing what they have for sale.

I expect TwinOtter23 and Tangmere1940 have already posted application forms to Broadley Terrace, Marylebone just in case they’ve anything left to sell!

Seriously, being Stores Ref. crazy, I’d like to see the whole thing, please! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

It’s 133 pages long and only the first half a dozen pages are introductions etc.
I’d be more than happy to send it to someone who has the ability to photograph or scan all the pages and put them in a PDF or something similar and make it freely available.

Here’s a photo of the section 9, as requested. Hope it’s helpful. ๐Ÿ™‚

As AirMin rightly supposes, I have already sent off my Postal Order for 2/6d to the address given! I am hoping it will arrive by third postal delivery on Monday.

Bloodnok….I’d suggest that a reprint of the whole thing might well be a useful enterprise and I’ll bet you’d be surprised by the up-take.

You’d have your first customer here!
