POW 'four engined bomber' model

i was watching bbc tv ‘midlands today’ last night and an item involving the sale of a model bomber made by a pow when at sagan was aired .

i couldn’t have been the only viewer to recognise the model as a merlin engined HALIFAX but this aspect of the story was not mentioned .

nor i will not comment on the fact that the background image was a LANCASTER ………………..

the newsreader talked of a ‘british bomber’ – and i’m sure that everyone realises that the whole bomber offensive was based on just one type of bomber aircraft !!!!!!

the ‘squadron letters’ painted on the fuselage were RK – not a unit with which i am familiar .

the only useful information given in the story was that the model maker was imprisoned in sagan , his name was WARRANT OFFICER TAYLOR and he was shot down in 1944 .

anybody got any further information on this story ?

‘RK’ unit code

yes i agree with your comment – 10 OTU did carry those letters – but it doesn’t seem that a HALIFAX bomber was on the unit strength – WELLINGTONS and WHITLEYS ?

is this a case of the story deepening ?

anybody in possession of further information ?

It sold for £900. The associated diary sold for £440. Needless to say, I was outbid…..substantially!!

………which just shows what a bit of free television publicity can do. Savvy creatures, those auctioneers!

model halifax

i must have missed the first set of notes posted earlier this month – don’t know how i managed not to see them .

yesterday the model (along with a journal kept in sagan) was sold at auction .

the RK squadron letters seem unresolved – no halifax squadrons flew with such letters as far as i can see .

the lack of care over journalistic detail does seem rife – and i note some measure of identity disagreement in the previous postings .

but it was DEFINITELY a halifax model !!!! with RK recognition letters .

Hi there,

This has been discussed a few weeks before,
I suggest you try the search function.

Cheers
