A while back we discussed the colour scheme worn by Spitfire MH434 in the film Operation Crossbow, which was deemed to be a mock PRU scheme over its normal civilian colours.
However, I’m wondering whether it was based on something real? I seem to recall a colour profile in Spitfire – The History which shows an early-model PR Spit in a sort of white/blue combination – possibly PRU blue upper surfaces, and white below?
I don’t have the book to hand in order to scan the image, but I’m sure someone will know the one I mean?

BR416, originally overall Royal Blue, later undersides and sides oversprayed with white, or possibly light blue or Sky. See Classic Warbirds No 11 Merlin PR Spitfires in Detail, Malcolm Laird and Wojtek Matusiak.

Could be that one, Dave.
Like I say, it was just a thought.

If it’s the one I think it was, it’s a PRIV that was flown in those colours in the Middle east – upper surface was a ‘dark blue’
