Steve Moon of Aviation Panels came down and sorted my engine baffles and dish cowl yesterday.
Jeez, he’s good.

Right, what’s going on over here??? Oh, being silly are we. OK, enough of that, stop this thread immediately. No more being silly on the GA forum. Serious stuff, this flying business…can’t have any silly people about.
All right, let’s move along…
Back to Historic…

Melv , you could probably move it with a beavertail 7.5 ton lorry or possibly a LARGE car trailer – find a length of structural I beam – ( a girder ) , weld it perpendicular across the tail of the trailer / lorry . Roll EVLE tail first onto the trailer then lift the mainwheels onto the I beam you have just welded down , just remember to burn off any excess I beam or you will re-coachline everything you pass .
Al
Thanks Al, there are a few options. I am in a good position of knowing a lot of the people in the area who do aircraft from the work I do. I have a couple of possibilities and if it comes to it I have a welding workshop (licenced!) next to the cowl shed.
Dad’s 80th birthday tomorrow so not much work on the Rearwin and a ‘duty’ on Friday that will mean I finish early (and get to meet Steph) but the weekend should see a lot of stuff done.

“Christopher Biggins? My a*rse!”
You don’t wanna shout suggestions like that with Christopher Biggins around !!!!! 😀
Also, having a confirmed punmeister like Janie and having the words “Big”, “In” and “my a*rse” around with a suggestion of one-sided attraction (how politically correct!) is a recipe for disaster!
I have to admit to being bisexual.
If I want sex I have to buy it . . . .

I am still planning to get it moved soon but it will not be until any potentially messy work has been done. I also need to fond a way of moving it as the wheeltrack is quite wide.

Post some more photos Melv !!! , she is looking very good now and is a credit to you . Will someone from Vintec come along for your engine runs ?? – or are you releasing few photos as you are keeping them for a book ?? , what about a photo of the Panel and looking down inside the fuselage towards the tail , I’m really just a nosey ba5tard – how long now ?? the eternal 3 months .
Al
I may post some more as time goes on but I am not going to post everything as a) I have a dial up connection and b) I want to retain some back for whatever article gets published wherever.
Paul from Vintec will be down for engine runs. I may take a panel pic tomorrow when the coaming finally goes on. The panel was signed off and completed yesterday. The engine is almost completely connected and a new rear cowling ring has to be made. Then Steve will come down and measure up the main cowl. The boot cowl will be ready for fitting just as soon as I have fitted the fuselage panels, so later this weekend.

Have to pay for the prop this week!

Who is the Christopher Biggins lookalike next to Kylie ??? 😀
That Japanese racing snake lookalike is, according to my mum, one of the finest aviation writers currently living in northern Basingstoke. He is seen standing on a ladder as he has always thought his legs were too short.
To badly paraphrase my fave character in the Battle of Britain movie
“Christopher Biggins? My a*rse!”
The funny bit is the girlie is my neighbours daughter Claire. She would be mortified to know she was even shown on a forum let alone being mistooken for Kylie!

Looking good melv. Got me ticket. When do the wings go on – before or after going through the door?
That depends on how hard we push it!
Actually, plan A is: Get the cowshedlings (thanks Janie, look what you made me moo, er I mean do) underway. The boot cowl should be doable next week and the main cowl can get started. I don’t need to have the main cowl on for engine runs so if we get te first fit done then trimming and final fit can be after it has moved.
Inspector due today to ook a the panel (among other things) so that I can finish off in the cockpit. The coaming can go on and then the screen.
The area where the struts meet the fuselage needs adjusting and there is some work to do on the pilots door but that should not take long. The only big jobbie at the moment is the new rear cowling ring I have to make.
Most of the other jobs have been done and as soon as anything messy is finished I hope to mooooove it. Then the wings can go on, fuel system get connected, tail on and roof and interior fitted and it’ll be not far off engine running.
I am still getting held up by little things that are unnecessary (someone said to me yesterday “I can’t understand why you set yourself deadlines. it’ll get done in time” He doesn’t realise I don’t have time as the longer it takes the more it costs me and I am going broke!)
So, hopefully move in a week or two, depending on if I don’t get another cold like I have had, and then progress should be pretty rapid AND it should be a lot nearer home than it is at the moment.

I like the candyfloss machine at the front!
A bit chewy. Probably tastes better though. The shaft was well greased and then I kept walking into it. Clingfilm was the only thing that stopped me looking like a 1950s RAF fitter! (Mind you Brylcreme is better than Aeroshell grease!)
