Preservation of WWII Tyres. Spitfire

Hi everyone
Don’t know if any one can help with this one. I have 2 original Spitfire wheels that are to be displayed on a static MK1X.
Can anyone recommend any of the following –

A good ‘Back to black’ restorer and more importantly a product to help prevent degragation of rubber from UV rays.

Looking forward to replies as always

We use agemaster on rubber deice boots, that might do the job, it is designed for tyres too, WEAR GLOVES or you will have brown hands for days…

Try Frosts Restoration Equipment !!

I’m sure I’ve seen a black rubber Tyre paint marketed by Frosts Auto Restoration Equipment. (Rochdale ).

Autoglym Rubber plus

Autoglym Rubber Plus prevents cracking, feeds and cleans the rubber and gives it a sheen. You need to apply it a couple of times a month for on going protection.

morris lubricants “”hard surface conditioner””. keeps a great finish on the tyres and the best off all it lasts for ages and keeps dust and dirt from sticking. i use it on restorations on bikes, cars and my own vehicles. it tarts up most plastics and rubbers. it comes in an aersol tin and is readily available

Back in the olden days black paint with some thinners was used as back to black and painted on tyres as used in second hand tyre shops to look “new”, i think still done today.

As for uv protection try it see if it works ok.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve got a good set of tyres. I just need to protect them.

They still make them, so you might be able to source worn ones that are relatively modern if you get stuck
