I paid another visit to Prestwick yesterday for a Virgin A340 due in twice on a training sortie but as a week ago it parked up for 20 minutes on the short Runway both times for a crew change and didn’t do any circuits (boo hiss).
Bit of a change in the weather too from my previous visit on Monday it was chillly this time and the wind picked up to gusts of 29 knots, sadly the weather forecast was a little too optimistic and heavy cloud rolled in after a bright start so it was a stuggle with the light levels.
Fred.
1.Virgin A340-300 arrives at midday on Runway 13 and vacates off to the left as seen from my angle for a crew change.
2.When it was on the short Runway I could see it was going to taxi past the Control Tower and that was the shot I was looking for but I was following it looking through the camera and hadn’t noticed the windsock that was going to ruin it so it was one of those “Oh no” moments.
3.Just after passing the Control Tower to taxi to 13 for departure, that big flat yellow thing behind it is an emergency water supply.
4.Departing from Runway 13 pity it was so dull, used my Extender on that one so difficult to manual focus at 560mm. Very tricky to get it sharp coming towards at speed.
5.Found an angle to shoot some stored Ryanair 737-200’s awaiting resale (don’t know who’s getting them). Won’t be long before “Kilkenny” and “Jaguar” are gone for good.
6.The impounded Volare AN12 that’s been here for about a month now and parked on the North side where it’s difficult to shoot.
7.One of the three KC135’s based here at the moment for the JMC excercise, what a noise it made flying very low over us my ears were ringing.
8.Virgin A340 about to land on Runway 13 for it’s second crew change of the day.
9.Touching down quite early on the Runway in very poor light, would have looked better if the Runway lights had been switched on.

All the FR732’s have been sold to Autodirect Aviation as going concerns and spare parts. They leave PIK for their new another across the pond in a week or so.

Apparently Volare owe a 100 grand so don’t think we will be seeing them in the UK for the time being, pity too they were occasional PIK visitors and I once shot an IL76 of theirs parked close to the fence at Freight.

The AN12 is rumoured to be on offer for 3 grand, now if only my garden was big enough.

It was sitting outside the hanger just over a week ago. A nice surprise when I passed through PIK! 🙂

The Heavylift Belfast is in the Polar Hanger at the moment so I didn’t get anything on it during my two visits this week, when I saw it about 3 weeks ago it wasn’t parked on a good spot then either.
Should be plenty of time to shoot it when it comes out of the hanger.
I was browsing the mags this aftenoon and Airliner World has a little bit on the same owners getting the other Belfast G-BEPS back into an airworthy state, there was a pic of it at Southend without any engines on it. If the manage to do it good chance it might turn up at PIK one day.

Great shots 🙂
Real shame that we now know that CNY has been WFU – and If CNT has also gone that just leaves CJC the Hertz Jet that I saw at MAN today 🙁
