In these cash strapped days I was looking for an inexpensive pint and happened across a ‘real ale’ Pub in Stockport Cheshire which sells ‘Cask Bitter at £1.34 and a lovely drink it was [Sam Smiths] , do you think that the major breweries aren’t trying hard enough in these hard times to keep The Pubs open , as these water holes are rapidly becoming an endangered species !

Parked at washington for the evening, just wandered across to the pub placed conveniently behind the services. It appears despite what Scott alleges about the local’s navigation abilities, they have no problems finding their way to the bar… :diablo:

Doesn’t sound bad. As i write this (off my phone) i’m at the wetherspoons in berwick drinking dragon tail at 1.55 a pint. And very nice it is too… 🙂

The one and only good thing about this place where I am at (Libreville, Gabon), is that the beer is cheap. Around 50p a pint if you buy it in a returnable glass bottle. Imported beers are more dear. If you have a beer in a pub it will cost you about the same as in the UK. If you buy a beer in a nightclub, will cost around £3 – £6 depending.

Fosters? Ah you mean Kangaroo wee!
Ok the instant favourites list would include;
Black Sheep
Theakston’s (Especially Old Peculier)
Samuel Smith’s
John Smith’s (Cask, none of your smooth chemical crap)
Hobgoblin (Well anything from the Wychwood stable)
Pretty much anything from Ringwood Brewery
Joseph Holt’s do some nice stuff too.
And many other ‘proper’ ales
I’ve just never got on with Abbot, or Greene King for that matter.

Abbots? Where’s the ‘throw up, that stuff’s vile’ smiley?!
What do you think is a good pint then young man ??
Abbott is a very pleasant well balanced pint – just because you dont like it -doesnt mean it is orrible !! it merely means that you dont like that particular pint 😉
I have a very eclectic taste in beer inc Hofmark pilsner,Budvar,Erdinger draught and loads of more pedestrian ales, but its a bit like music – some you like some you dont.
Except for Fosters…that is Horrible :diablo:

Inflation has, sadly, reached the world of pub haggling since Papa Lima’s Morris 8 for 1 pint escapade it seems- A spare MG engine, only the engine notice, not the whole car, cost me six pints last year….
Bl**dy outrageous I thought… 😀

Warning! Thread drift!
My very first car cost me a pint of beer, 1/9d back in 1960. It was a 1938 Morris 8 convertible, and although a non-runner at the time, I soon got it going – and it had twin carbs!
It only lasted a couple of years, but was well worth it even though it consumed oil at he same rate as petrol! If I remember correctly 1/9d was also the price of a gallon (not a litre!) of petrol in those days, proper leaded stuff too.

Budweiser use lots of Clydesdales in their advertising. Their average height is around 18-hands (about 6ft to the shoulder). They pee rather a lot…. 😉
By: Blue_2 - 25th April 2010 at 22:25
A noble creature such as a horse would never lower itself to p155ing someting as vile as Budweiser! :diablo:

Tennents? That stuff would strip the enamel from your teeth!
Maybe so but it’s still a lot better than that horse p*** they call Budweiser.

£3.30 a pint of larger in some pubs in Leeds city centre on the outskirts it’s no better £2.95.
I have now got used to popping to morrisons for 8x cans of calsberg export for just £6.00
Went to a hotel in Headingley last weekend for a wedding the bar in the function room charged £3.30 but the bar in the lounge was £2.65 a big saving in the same hotel when drinking 10+ pints, never mind the hotel room at £75.00 per night i love moaning.

Got to be something worthwhile visiting near White Hart Lane I suppose…! :diablo:
By: BSG-75 - 22nd April 2010 at 13:16
I sometimes go to a Witherspoons pub near White Hart Lane, they have silly offers on at times (2 X bacon cheese burger and a jug of stella for £7 IIRC a while back) and I’ve seen Becks there cheaper than it is across the road at the petrol station mini market !
