“Would need a quarry full of aggregate to build up a plateau at that end.”
Why?
I suggest you look at Madeira ariport for an innovative solution to a runway extension.
A runway extension at LBA is in the Government’s long term strategy for UK airports and the winning bidder will be more than aware of this.

People talk about the hump in LBA runway. Still on the subject of Madeira.
The first 3000ft of runway 05 appears to rise something like 140ft then falls again.Another gem is Bilbao which is located on the side of a hill. The apron is 40ft higher than the main runway which also falls away about 65ft at one end.
I have written before about being surprised how so many airports I have visited that are built on hills.

Think the runway extension is a non starter.
Would never get planning permission, particularly now the airport is no longer owned by the Local Authority that would have to grant permission.
Plus there is a huge drop at the end of the runway and major engineering would be required.
Would need a quarry full of aggregate to build up a plateau at that end.
A fully laden 767 frequently files direct to Bridgetown in the winter cruise season.
I think the more immediate problem is to try and remove the hump, however this would severely hamper operations whilst the work is done.

Why would they want to get rid of Small Props and Private Jets. They provide income….
Also, do you not have an issue with extending runway of the ground dropping away at each end?? I assume the only expansion could be at the 14 end?

Don`t hold your breath. Do not expect any quick changes. The wrong mob won the deal. Yes they will provide more space for the hordes with another giant sticking plaster. They cannot afford to spend the required investment.
The price was too high.
I think the buyer is a good choice to be honest, but I agree they paid a lot, over 30x EBITDA, which is more than LCY went for. The truth is, like it or not though, that sticking plaster development is the way forward for regional airport development in the UK because the airlines won’t pay for anything more.
