Problems with the forum SW

Hi, i noticed some problems with the forum options. Mainly two:

-despite there are many quite long threads, it is still (after so many years) to visualize more than 40 replies at once. Even editing the HTTP has not changed the situation. Why there is such limits, as there are topics with hundreds or thousands replies (and therefore very, very long to be read x40)?

-Most disturbing: in the ‘print version’ i cannot actually visualize the images, but only the links. Why? This means that, basically, i have to print or save the pages that interests, only in the lousy standard version. I don’t know if there are SW problem with the site, of SW problems with my PC, but having proof the stuff with IE, FF and GC browsers, evidently it is related with forum settings. But what’s the point to have a print version page that do not visualize the images but just the links? this can be ‘economic’ for the printing, but it is definitively a failure for who want to archivie-print the page in his PC or printer.

Those problems, despite the SW, are present probably since the beginning, as i am not a really newby in the forum. But i ask: there is some tricks in order to rectify those problems?

Kev, I am totally flabbergasted that your spell check let you down. You are usually the most precise and lateral thinker.:diablo:

Ah! I must have been having one of my off days. 😀

It’s spelt haven’t and neither have you. Perhaps the forum could implement an auto spell checker with it’s next update?

Alternatively people might spend a bit more time checking the spelling themselves. That way there is more of a chance of spelling it correctly next time. Often it is simple editing just to correct typos.

” that you haver mastered ”

Since the intransitive verb “haver” has been around since at least 1866 an auto spell check wouldn’t be the best way of identifying this typo. Or were you just stooping from your lofty pedestal to have a pop?

Perhaps your time would have been better spent learning about the apostrophe?

And upgrades or changes of software, I suspect, cost money. Yet, if a charge was to be suggested for the use of these forums I imagine there would be an outcry. It’s a fantastic free resource, just accept it and enjoy.

I’ve been a member here for ten years and in computer terms, as something of a technophobe, I guess you can call me a ‘n00b.’ However, in my ten years here I have managed to learn the correct spelling of the word really. :diablo:

It does strike me as somewhat strange that, with your obvious competence regarding all things relating to the computer, that you haver mastered the art of using spell checking SW.

No, it has made some points that the Webmaster should see.

Working everyday with the software it is easy to fail to notice that things have moved on.

I think this thread can disappear as the OP hasn’t appeared for four or five days. 😉

The software used by this forum looks to be a standard format so likely to have been purchased `off the shelf`. I’ve seen identical forums elsewhere. As such it’s unlikely to be that `customisable` by the web master. Perhaps the web guru can comment.
To fix you are most likely looking at an upgrade or change of software.

(The software used is https://www.vbulletin.com/ new version looks good.)

BTW I think you are being unkind to the original poster. His points are valid and the sort of functionality you would expect. I too find the software for this site a little buggy, old and tired. Could do with a lift.

p.s. Rearly, you didn’t know what SW and OS meant! What a bunch of computer n00bs! :dev2:

No desire to know to be honest.
I treat the computer the way most people treat the modern car–if it starts, I can move it (just) from a to b.

My interst and knowledge of what goes on inside an internal combustion engine is I presume considered archaic in many circles.

I cannot believe you have been on this forum for over 10 years and haven’t asked any aviation related questions, posted any useful material or even said ‘hi’. This just makes your first post onto this forum a little odd (to me, anyway).

Not quite correct! He has been on for ten DAYS. The Forum has been alive for ten years! 🙂

Surprising as the young forumers (‘digital natives’) are not friendly with terms such OS and SW.

Nice to be called young (!)

As an ex-coastguard:

O.S. Ordnance Survey and S.W. South West

both of these abbreviations have been on the go for a great number of years, I was not aware they had been replaced with these new fangled computer ones, as the compass and map are still extant.

All joking aside I sometimes do think we take the efforts of Key for granted. The more serious parts of the forum are a fantastic way to exchange information and a serious repository on all sorts of topics. Key are even generous enough to provide us with a playground too!

So, from me for one, thanks for all your efforts and long may it continue.

FWCNO simply means the FUND for the WEBMASTER’s CHRISTMAS NIGHT OUT.

And well deserved too.

“Surprising as the young forumers (‘digital natives’) are not friendly with terms such OS and SW.”

I’m of an age that remembers when SW meant short wave, OS stood for offside, onside, and on occasion, old soak and printer-friendly meant you knew someone who worked at the local litho.

And presumably, having found little help or support here, you have contacted the Webmaster directly to lodge your complaint and request improvments to the operation of the site.

And, I dare say, offered to pay for any upgrades to the forum’s SW, OS, printer-friendly capability and the FWCNO?

Looks like a T.T. to me (techno troll). It amazes me how some posters are so embarrassed by their location that they cannot disclose it. Agree with Charlie, it has worked for us to our satisfaction. 🙂
