Apparently Plane Sailing’s Catalina G-PBYA is to re-enact the 1913 Daily Mail Waterplane Circuit of Britain. Unfortunately, although they wish to commemorate Australian Harry Hawker’s connection, G-PBYA is incapable of making the water-landings at the control points of the original event, and will merely overfly them. When one considers that there are other Catalinas in Europe and Australia capable of making water landings, apart from single-engined seaplanes which would be more historically accurate, one is obliged to ask why Plane Sailing should be permitted to perform this travesty.

I didn’t mean to infer an ‘official permit’ was neccesary – rather a moral obligation to respect the original conditions. I apologise if you are unable to understand my inadequate grasp of the English language.

I’m not sure they need a permit to carry out the flight. What makes you think they do? And who from?
