Jane’s reports that a video released by one of the rebel groups in Syria shows how a Strela (SA-7 ‘Grail’) launcher can be connected to external batteries in order to allow a missile to be fired without using the ‘official’ battery. This technique was developed as a solution to the problem created by the wastage of batteries caused by inexperienced operators.
