Prop ID

A local fishing boat dragged this up a little while ago but I only just found where I put the photo, any ideas what it’s from?

Yep that’s the one Ian, you must have been in town on a Wednesday or a Sunday then as Reeves is open every other day. If you are ever back call into the shop as the owner (not me!) is a nice chap and usually has some interesting items. Thanks Pete, both myself and the shop keeper that over looks the garden thought it was probably American but neither of us are expert enough to be sure.

Is this in Hastings? Think I saw it last summer, next to little militaria shop that was shut. Lots of sticky fingerprints were left on the glass.

Nope, that’s all American!
B17 or something else powered by a Wright R1820.

Hmmm…That quote sounds familiar.

(Youโ€™re such a tease Mr. Beaufighter leaving poor old Graham all alone with only a SEARCH facility for company):D.

This was a thread back in 2005. (Quote below)

Not a Spitfire but a Seafire. It’s a blade for a Rotol R22/4F5/8 propeller fitted to Seafire Mks XV & XVII and made by F. Hills & Sons (originally Jablo Propellers) in Manchester.

155hp fits with the final iterations of the Blackburn Cirrus Major 3.

See attached wiki link: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackburn_Cirrus_Major

I guess the Miles Messenger is the most numerous type to be so fitted?

Judging by the seat, I’d say it’s far too small to be off a Kestrel..

Agreed the Kestrel seats looked nothing like that :p sorry I could not resist:diablo:

Looking closer at the first picture, the spinner method of construction is very different then my Ryan prop, and the RPM is about 1000 to high, so probably not a Kinner prop.

155 horse power Kinner R-55 from a Ryan PT-22. Spinner matches as well as direction of rotation. I will measure mine, and check the markings.

Possible Cirrus engine propellor – it’s the correct diameter, but none of the numbers supplied gel with any of the drawings I have for the Avian or approved part numbers for the Moth. The only other candidate I can think of here in Oz would be the Menasco Pirate in the Ryan STM, but I don’t have any data for that.

I think Low’n’Slow is on the mark. I forgot that many Cirrus engines have right hand rotation. So Avian, Bluebird or Moth perhaps.

Hi all , sorry for lack of info , posted in a hurry .

Dia. of prop is 6ft 6 in.

The markings are very hard to read , so some of the numbers might not be correct, the first line is unreadable

SER 21174
HP 155
RPM 2960

On the side of the hub is ,

R.F. AD 344

cheers dave

Rotation direction is correct for something like a Blackburn Cirrus?

A diameter and of course a readable pic of the info stamped on the prop hub might help clinch the ID?

It’s not Anson or Oxford, the rotation is wrong as is the hub shape. What is the overall diameter? Probably not off a British engine except perhaps a Kestrel if it’s big enough but I can’t count the holes in the Prop boss.

blade i/d

There should be some stamps on the base of the blade somewhere.

Not sure if that’s an old decal mark, though it is in the right place. It appears to me we are looking at the back of the blade, which would make it a right-hander.

Anon.
