Prop identification?

Can anyone help with thoughts on the origins of this wooden prop please? It is 5 feet in diameter.

Thanks

A number of UK pre-war light engines used a 6 stud boss fitting, Aeronca JAP and Scott Squirrel for instance. The shape looks pre-war to me.

I think its a later prop. Most early wooden props were 8 hole, not 6.
Not always the case though. Im tending to agree with Mike.
Possibly 90’s microlight?

Hi there.

Prop diameter is 5ft?.
First number usually prop diameter, so im guessing 62 inches.
Next figure is possibly pitch, 40 degrees.
The last number is generally maximum horsepower…. i think, although 508 is a bit strange, i would have though round up or down. so 500 or 510.
As for the 1809 3 90, im stumped.

The 62 denotes the diameter in inches. 40 is almost certainly the pitch, again in inches, and for those who don’t know how this translates into distance; it is the distance the prop moves forward along its axis in one revolution, measured from the datum position, usually at the centre of the blade.

There is usually a date in there somewhere and the manufacturer’s code/design number. That is probably 1809 as even that is a little early for a wooden prop! The 3 and 90 (if that’s what it is) could be March 1990 so could be a modern prop for a vintage aeroplane – or even a homebuilt.
