HI Mike
Thank you for your advice i will give it a go with caution at the weekend, a real shame that they were painted but going by yours it does appear that the original finish can possibly be rescued.

Of a matter of interest what did the ebay seller list it as? did you ever find its identity if not via the number itself?

Mine was apart of a garden fence so like you say there were more and not of one aircraft, at least that clears that up.

Regards Brad.

Hi Brad
Nitromors is a paint stripper it comes in two types a green or yellow tin the yellow is a little less aggressive, if you apply some to the green paint it will strip back but be careful keep a water soak rag close by to take off the stripper. The green paint is not that hard to remove.

The blade was bought about 9 years ago on Ebay the vendor had a number for sale, I believe he cleared a garden that used them as fence posts so I would say there would have been more than 4. Hope that helps and clears up any confusion.

Regards
Mike

Hi Beachcomber
Thank you for the photo, im certainly a little confused in regards to the number or yours being D*220 79* * as far as i can work out up to now the DA940 is a Baracuda, Defiant11 or a WellingtonV1, as per Aneoracs reply no 3, so have you managed to find out what your blade may of fitted, or maybe that number cross references over,(sorry like i say im out of my depth on this one) but would like to find out as much as i can.

So was your blade in the photo covered in green paint also if so its come up pretty well with the Nitromors that you have previously suggested, if you dont mind me asking where would i be able to purchase a tin of this? also what sort of process did you use?
Many thanks again Brad.

Certainly looking in favour of the Baracuda as they do appear to have the 4 bladed set up, or is it not going to be as simple as that, or did the Defiant11 and Wellington have the 4 blade set up also?
Although currently i cant find any references to back this.
Not my field sorry.

Hi
Just searching in regard to two propeller blades i have, strangely mine have the same green paint as the above so i would imagine they are a part of the same family.

Going by justme which his has been cut straight and beachcombers that has been sculptured back to its original shape then there is mine that looks to of been sadly ripped of the hub but still has the bulk of the lower part of the blade, so it appears there were originally 4 to the set, my question is would this throw any light towards the identity of the aircraft, being a 4 blade prop, ie Barracuda, Defiant11 or Wellington V1.

There is the marking DA940 0n one of my prop blades with an (E) painted within a yellow circle.
Any propeller experts or help would be very much appreciated.

Underneath that green gunk I can see what looks like D?940 which would make it a Barracuda blade. Also used on the Defiant II & Wellington VI.

Anne

Just checked under the gunk is DA.940

I’ve got one of those old gate post one’s all covered in green paint. Nitromors will strip the green off and leave the original finish, but be careful. Did you cut the end off, the one I’ve got I left as is, it’s got almost a sculpture quality to it with the layers of wood showing, other than it’s rotol I don’t know, expect an expert along shortly.
