Despite living in Sweden for the best part of 30 years, I have yet to visit the SwAF Museum at Linköping. Encouraged by your Cosford report, I am now wondering if a few of you would like to join me in such a visit, perhaps in April or May when the weather should be reasonable (and can be very hot in fact in May!) I speak fluent Swedish and could be your host/guide – there is a convenient boat that takes cars and passengers from Newcastle to Gothenburg, where I live. Linköping is a 3 hour drive from there. I could arrange reasonably cheap hotel accommodation in Gothenburg, unfortunately my flat is too small!
Museum details (partly in English) are on http://www.flygvapenmuseum.se/
If anyone is interested, please contact me, I was thinking a group of 4 including myself would be convenient, i.e. 3 of you from the UK.

It should be possible to borrow a step ladder there, and I have been told that we can take close-ups of the exhibits from behind the barriers by prior request.

Exactly!
All of you who plan to go there might want to have a look in “Spitfire International” to see what happens when you do not have a ladder.:(

To make it clear to everyone, the proposed visit would take all day on Sunday 23 May from/to Gothenburg, so 2 hotel nights minimum are necessary, Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 May.
I can transport visitors from/to either Gothenburg airport, these are the sort of details we must arrange.
I believe the Spitfire is now complete (the diagram is 15 years old and says that it was in pieces), but a clear shot might be difficult in what appears to be a cramped display. If you have ever experienced a Swedish winter you will understand why they are kept indoors!

Ryanair are now advertising flights to Gothenburg for GBP20, so I think it’s time to make some firm arrangements. If all those who wish to join a trip to this museum on Sunday 23 May can let me know before Monday, either via this thread or by Private Message, I will start organising.
Entrance is SEK 40 per person (about GBP3), pensioners over 65 SEK 30, the guide (English) costs SEK 600 for 1.5 hours (we can share this cost), there is a Gripen simulator to fly for 10 minutes costs SEK 140 and a guidebook in English costs SEK 60.
I can arrange the transport (hire car) for the weekend (shared cost) for about SEK 2000. The museum opens at 12:00 that day and closes at 16:00, it’s about 3 hours drive from Gothenburg.
Please contact me for more information and to confirm your participation. The weather will hopefully be glorious!
Looking forward to meeting some of you!

Hello L1972, and anyone else who may be interested.
Mike J and I (who started this thread) are currently discussing a trip on 23 May. Ryanair might co-operate by having a “sale” then, who knows?
Anyway, I think Private Messages to myself and Mike J are the way to organise this.
Welcome to Sweden!

Visit to Swedish Air Force Museum
Hi,
Not sure who I should contact about this but I am interested in the visit. I am free over the period 23 – 26 April and am happy to fly to Sweden with whoever else is going. Perhaps somebody could get in touch with me about it.

Don’t avoid your work, somebody might be waiting for you to complete it before they can do theirs!

No, actually hoping for something that wasn’t made in the UK or the US or licence built, just something very different and original. We’ll have the Spitfires and Mustangs too, of course…
Cheers

I still think a Saab B-17 and a Boeing B-17 flying in formation would be worth seeing. Only half of the duo would match your criteria, but you cannot have everything, can you?

And one of these (Theft possibilities, HP?)

Sounds like a great opportunity. Flight cheaper than a pint and Roadkill platter? Not bad. Not sure I can do it but hey, they do have a Spitfire oh monomanicas…

Proposed itinerary
I could for example rent a minibus (VW Caravelle) on the weekend 23-26 April from 12:00 Friday to 12:00 Monday. This would enable me to pick up visitors from the Ryanair-served airport (Säve), deliver them to the hotel, then take them next day to Linköping for a whole day at the RDSwAF Museum at Linköping. Back to Gothenburg for a day’s sightseeing before returning Sunday or Monday to the UK. How about that? Any takers, please contact me via private messages.

I was thinking of a car-load of 4 but of course there could be more than one car . . .
I guess we should be communicating by E-mail about this, are you able to contact me? I am a newcomer to the site and haven’t figured out all the possibilities yet!
Regards from Peter
