The Europeans may be planning it but Aussies say they will never pay for a pee on a plane, according to a new poll.
The survey of 1340 people found nine out of 10 respondents believed the idea of low-cost airlines charging a fee for using toilets on planes was “ridiculous”.
The poll follows news that European airline Ryanair will install credit card readers on their toilets within two years.
But the idea triggered angry comments from Aussies who answered the totaltravel.com poll.
“Going to the bathroom is a basic human function and should not be paid for under any circumstances,” one said.
Another asked what would happen if a passenger did not have the cash and could not hold on.
“Young children, mature-aged and disabled individuals particularly stand to suffer the most from such an idiotic, money-grabbing proposal,” the traveller wrote.
Only 4.5 per cent of people thought it was a good idea that would keep bathrooms cleaner and the same number said they didn’t care.
Totaltravel.com global marketing manager Paul Fisher said the survey had hit a nerve with voters, with 1000 votes received in just 24 hours.
“There’s no debate here – Australians detest the idea of paying to pee and I would advise all low-cost airlines to pay close attention,” he said.
Mr Fisher said the travel industry needed to make sure it provided good service because people were more frugal with their travel dollars.
“Travellers want value for money but they do not want to be taken advantage of,” he said. “I think it’s fair to say that charging customers for using the toilets will not win any fans.”

Just beware the effects of cabin pressure!! :diablo:
Or just good ole’ G force – brings back memories of trying to pee in a Nimrod whilst twisting about at low level, seeing it actually go up instead of down was rather disconcerting 😮

If Ryanair do this and you are a bloke there’s no problem. Just get yourself a penile sheath and a leg bag and you can urinate without the discomfort of having to leave your seat.

Ive a right pain with thes argument at this stage! Ryanair can only charge you to use the toilet if they stop selling food and and drink. Its the law that they provide free toiliets when they are selling these items.
Whats worth more all the food and drink they sell, or the few € theyll make from charging for the loo?

Disgusting to say the least…. but if they do that the best way to combat it is to not fly with them.
Exactly. Why people continue to fly with this ‘airline’ is beyond me.

Stupidity like this needs to be stopped…. and the company taken to task over it.
Also do they not realise that “holding on to it” can cause medical problems in the long run (if its “held” regularly that is..lol)
