Psyche of Nuclear bomber pilots!

This is a strange but very interesting topic I have thought about for many moons. Think about it carefully. How is the psyche of a nuclear bomber pilot different to other fighter pilots? I mean, these are individuals gone through rigorous screening to be selected for such a mission which other pilots may have reservations about. They are selected because the high command knows they will carry out the mission and won’t bug out at the last moment. At least thats what the command hopes for. However do you think pilots would ‘bug out’ at the last moment?

What makes them prepared to unleash devastation of biblical proportions, killing millions of people in the process?
Are these things on their mind or are they so focused on the mission itself?

In many cases the pilot will know he is literally on a one-way mission, no return. This certainly the case for a WWIII or continental war scenario. So could he jettison his nuke knowing that no one would ever know? It could be B1, B2 bomber pilots or a lone pilot in an F16….

Interestingly, what do you think goes through his mind as he flies to his target?
