Hi.
I bought two books today from the local car boot sale, De Havilland
Aircraft since 1909 & Gloster Aircraft since 1917 both mint with dust covers. Paid £8 each, i’d like to know if it’s a fair price.

Hi gang
sorry to bump this one but this thread reminded me of a few Putnam books I had stored away in a box for 10 years now and I didn’t miss them to be honest – therefore I decided to part with them by offering them here instead of putting them on ebay. They are in very good condition incl. dustjackets. Offers via PM please.
1) De Havilland Aircraft since 1909; 1987 edition; 1994 reprint
2) Handley Page Aircraft since 1907; 1987 edition
3) Curtiss Aircraft 1907 – 1947; 1979 edition; 1987 reprint
4) Lockheed Aircraft since 1913; 1987 edition
5) McDonnell Douglas Aircraft since 1920: Volume 1; 1988 edition
6) Aircraft of the Royal Air Force since 1918; 1988 edition
7) United States Military Aircaft since 1909; 1989 edition
and as a special treat (good condition, too, incl. dustjacket)
8) Fokker – The Creative Years; 1965 (!) edition
Please be aware that the books will be shipped from Switzerland, i.e. some postage will also occur.
Regards
Martin / Swiss Mustangs

‘SPITFIRE – Story of a Famous Fighter’ by Bruce Robertson.
Written over 40 years ago and still one of the best all round reference books on the subject.

I hope you mean Bruce Robertson, otherwise this is one I’ve missed!

I’m sure you’re right. It’s still at my Mum’s lair, (I hope, I haven’t seen it for years!), and I was using my increasingly unreliable memory.

Putnum
I’m a huge fan of Putnum’s “U.S. Military Aircraft Since 1909”. The 1989 edition seemed to be in print for only 15 minutes. I bought mine as soon as it came out and never saw another one.
Are they as rare as I think they are?

Andy, the only Harleyford book I’ve got is the Spitfire one, by Gordon Swanborough, I think. You’re right, it’s BIG.

Scanning.
DHFAN
if you find anyone that could do that I’d like the same thing done for my Harleyfords U.S. Navy Aircraft. It’s the only one of my Harleyfords without a dust jacket. Although the whole jacket would be way bigger than A3.
Anyone out there?
Cheers
Andy

On the subject of Putnam books, my best bargain although not in Phil’s range, was Vols 1 and 3 of British Civil Aircraft from whenever. £8 the pair on Ebay, plus postage.
However, they had missing dust-jackets which is the main reason they were so cheap.
Although I’m not that bothered, as I want them to read and not look at, they do look a bit tatty on the shelf, especially in the middle of the other eight I’ve managed to acquire.
Has anybody with a scanner got copies and could scan the jackets in for me?
I assume they would need to be in two parts but I can always stitch them together. Although I don’t have an A3 printer I’ve a couple of mates that have so printing wouldn’t be a problem.

Well done! What a bargain! If you ever find the Putnam Miles Aircraft at this price, grab it, as it’s so rare that it’s going for around £125!
How much, Bl&&dy Hell.
I,ll look out for that one. Thanks
Phil. 🙂

You did VERY well. Putnam books retail for about 3-4 times that amount in Australia.

Putnams.
You did good mate 😉
Being a Putnams collector is getting to be an expensive business.
Get them while you can at those prices.
I’m after the Harald Penrose titles at present and yes they are on ABE books but pricey. 😮 😮
By: RadarArchive - 14th August 2004 at 22:12
I’d agree with the previous comments. They are indeed great prices. On abebooks, the cheapest prices for the two books is £20 for the de Havilland one and £14 for the Gloster one. So you’ve done very well!

Absolute snip. Regularly £20 plus on Ebay, plus postage.
Rat.

Sounds like a deal to me – jammy git.

I’d say they were a good buy, at Duxford in June I saw some from a used book seller and the typical going price was 15 pounds….
Having said that, I’d like a copy of Avro Aircraft since 1908, preferably the 1989 edition…anyone have one cheap? (It needs to be cheap when the exhange rate is factored in…) 🙂
