Yes, it’s the Motive Power Museum at Lytham. It opened around 1967.

It was at the premesis of a company called Helical Springs Ltd (or something similar)

According to MAM 2010 WW421 is actually WW450/G-BZRE/7689M and is now at Bournemouth. Same source gives Flixton for the Vampire,

Am I correct in thinking that at one stage the Cirrus-engined Swallow G-AEVZ was at the Museum in Lytham St Annes?

Here is a photo of it taken at Squires Gate. Can anyone remind me of the date and event and advise what other aircraft participated, as these are details long since forgotten.

Also what’s the strange device parked in front of it?

More on Lytham – yes, there was a glider. It was hanging from the roof.

You can see it in one of this chap’s pix – scroll down to July 18th

I too have a puzzle picture which I am trying to identify.

All I need is the type and identify of actual airframe- simples.

Checking my logbook, the Provost is indeed WW421/7688M and the Vampire XK624. I have no record or recollection of any gliders.

Yes, it’s the Motive Power Museum at Lytham. It opened around 1967, I remember visting and having a ride on the steam train!

The Vampire and Provost were the only aircraft I remember, though there was an excellent large-scale BOAC Comet 1 model in the entrance hall.

It closed in the early 80s, but many of the exhibits remained in the building. It even reopened for a while about 10 years ago, though I think it’s now an engineering works. At least one steam locomotive remains on site.

We bought a Slingsby T8 Tutor BGA833 from Ivor Stretch, that had been on display At the Motive Power museum at Lytham St Annes. We did a bit of work on it. Including getting a new wing for it.one of the old wings had been cut in half. Before we sold it, then got it back. It did fly again. There was also a Grunau Baby in the museum at some time, i believe this fell apart.

I think it was called the Lytham Motive Power Museum. I have a feeling that there may have been a Chipmunk there at one point, but I wouldn’t swear to it. I may have a photo of the Provost in situ taken in the 1970s but I can’t lay my hands on it at the moment.

Collecting manhole covers is not sad. It is a very profitable hobby indulged in by the non tax paying fraternity.

I took this about 1970ish and as far as I remember it was taken in a museum in Lytham St Annes near Blackpool,I will search for other pictures !!

Have you not answered your own question? Presumably you’re asking where are they now.

I immediately thought of Lytham when seeing the photo even though I’d only visited once. I have a log of the place at home if you still need serials.

Could this be the at the Vulcan Foundry at Newton-le-Willows on Merseyside.

Appropos of nothing in particular………..

There’s a manhole cover near to me with the name ‘Vulcan Iron Foundry’ on it.

No, I’m not a sad collector of manhole covers – just that I did a car rally for the local WI some years ago – and made up some clue about ‘Mr Spock’s Forge’ ??? when I spotted the cover.

I’ll get my coat….
