(Reuters) – Australia’s Qantas Airways (QAN.AX) is setting up two new airlines in Asia and ordering $9 billion of new Airbus (EAD.PA) aircraft as part of a do-or-die makeover to salvage its loss-making international business.
Qantas will also cut 1,000 jobs in Australia as it shifts its focus to the world’s fastest-growing aviation market, triggering threats by unions to block the move and a government pledge to scrutinise the plans.

They ordered the B787s to replace the A330s, did they not?

Isn’t limiting themselves to one manufacturer going to limit their bargaining power? Seems a little short sighted to me, especially when your options are limited aircraft with good seating but not enough range or good range and too many seats. (Still remains to be seen what the A350 will shape out to be)
Even EK mix and match to get the best deals.
