Qantas Joey pilots get 3%

Qantas and union officials have ended an industrial stalemate lasting almost two years, sealing a five-year pay deal that will give short-haul pilots annual rises of 3 per cent.
The breakthrough followed a series of meetings between the Australian and International Pilots Association and Qantas negotiators.
It is scheduled to be put to a vote from August 24.
As well as the pay deal, the new enterprise agreement provides a sign-on bonus and profit sharing.
If the deal is endorsed it will end an impasse that began in September 2005, when the short-haul pilots’ previous enterprise agreement expired.
The agreement increases the hourly rate for first-year captains from $229.60 to $246.20 and to $266.16 for a fourth-year captain.
First officers will have an hourly rate rise of $135.46 to between $157.57 and $170.34.
Sign-on bonuses will be paid to each captain ($18,783.20) and first officer ($11,082.15), as well as an at-risk cash incentive of 6 per cent if certain profit milestones are reached.
The union has still to strike a deal for its long-haul pilots, whose enterprise agreement ended in December.
