Qantas will add further capacity to the hotly contested Sydney to Los Angeles route after it takes delivery of its fourth Airbus A380 next month.
Rob Gurney, who was appointed to the executive committee of Qantas Airlines in the role of Group executive – Commercial, following the departure of John Borghetti said, “Our fourth A380 arrives at the end of July, allowing us to increase Sydney-Singapore-London A380 services from three to five per week, and Sydney-Los Angeles services from three to four per week.”
The extra service to LAX from Sydney will commence on 6 August.

I think that DL may use one of their recently acquired Boeing 747-400s from Northwest on the flight, but don’t quote me on this.
Does anyone know if this true or not?
They’re apparently using 777-200’s!!!

What aircraft do they use?

Also, I notice the flight is ATL-LAX-SYD…does that mean that the pax travelling from ATL will be made to get off the aircraft in LAX and then re-board along with all those pax that just fly the LAX-SYD sector?
Apologies to Steve for kind-of highjacking his thread, but its still roughly on the same subject!;)

Despite the obvious increase in capacity, could this move also be seen as a response to Delta’s new (ATL-)LAX-SYD service which is due to commence on 3rd July?
What aircraft do they use? The first and business class in the new B777 looks very competitive, while it will have a hard time going against the A380.
Economy with 3-3-3 @B777 should be similar standard as 3-4-3 @A380.
P.S.: I have seen that Emirates really does have 3-4-3 seating in B777 economy. I know now what airline not to take.
