Who do they pay to do the sums at Qatar? Surely before buying an aircraft, the economics have a lot to do with decisions. If you use the 340 on a short sector then abviously it ain’t gonna be as efficient as flying legs that it was designed for.

What does it say about a CEO that buys an aircraft capable of doing DOH-Australia services efficiently but due to their being short-sighted in not operating the rights awarded to them and instead deciding to wait until they get what they wanted in that bilateral and soo misuse the A340 on unsuitable sectors in the intervening period?

It’s not a suprise, I have seen several airlines be quite negative about them, four engines in this day and age cannot compete with two. That is why most never returned for more, or took up options.
You notice Virgin and Airbus are very quiet on the 4 engines vs 2 these days! Economically it makes no sense, and I think the environmental lobby far outcries the opponents of long haul twin-ops.
