Quake

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-09-02 AT 07:23 AM (GMT)]I read the news this morning and it was about a quake in the midlands.

Fortunately no causalty is reported. Did someone feel it?

I was in San Francisco on Oct 17 1989 for the big one (7.1): that’s an interesting experience !!!

RE: Quake funny

Just listening to Radio one this afternoon and they were talking about it with a caller to the show and he told this story.

He was watching the film Casino with Robert De Niro on his big tv and cinema quality gear. When it came to the part in the film when De Niros car blows up the quake started to which the guy said (and I Quote) ” Now thats what I call surround sound “

You have to remember he had been at the pub and had about 5 -6 beer in him at the time.

RE: Quake

So-called “Experts” predict that the UK will experience a similar sized quake in about 10 years – so on 23rd September 2012, make sure you’re awake an ready for the next one.

I have just watched ITN news and it showed a DJ who had a show going in some huge tower. He was live on air and had to keep cool while this building shook frantically!

The biggest earthquake since records began in the UK was back in 1931. This caused lots of damage but nobody was killed.

And finally… a tip for those (like me) that slept through it. If you want to experience an earthquake, go to the National History Museum and go on that shop simulator that shakes. It simulates one that occurred in Japan (I think) and it killed 4,000 people.

RE: Quake

I felt it in Leicester which is about 40 miles away. Woke me up with the noise and my door was banging a lot, only one in the family to have heard it though.

Its funny we’ve never felt one, but we’ve had two in the space of a year, about November last year one in Melton just up the road and now this today. And only a few days after watching the film volcano.

RE: Quake

My mum was working last night and felt the ‘backlash’ of it. Just a bit of noise and a minor tremor – but we’re miles away from the epicentre.

People in my area apparently rang the police saying they had heard strange noises and their windows had been shaking.

I sometimes wonder what is happening in the UK – it wasn’t that long ago that we had a tornado up the road which caused quite some damage! Now we’re experiencing Earthquakes. 🙁

RE: Quake

Oh yes! I certainly felt it. And perhaps even more uncomfortably heard it. It was around 12:54 am and it lasted for a good few seconds. The house shook quite violently and ornaments, pictures and windows rattled. At a shop nearby items fell from the shelves and a friend who lives half a mile away had drawers come out of cupboards and a wardrobe door fell off. No apparent structural damage in the area where I live. It brought many people out onto the streets and set off numerous burglar alarms. I live in Walsall which is about 9 miles from the reported epicentre in Dudley.

It was an experience, but I don’t think I’d like to be around a bigger one.
