Quatro Vientos: Spanish Museum Pics

Hello Historic Fans:

After my recent La Ferte picture tread, I shall post some more pics on this forum.

Now, they come from a recent trip (2 weeks ago) to Spain. I visited the Museum at Quatro Vientos. The entrance price was an amazing 0,60€. But it was worth it. 😀

A lot of aircraft are standing outside. Amongst them some interesting jets. Take a look.

Albert,
G-ACYR was on public display in October last year when I visited. I can dig out a pic if you want?

Looking forward to your FIO pics. When I was there it wasn’t a flying day. (And the rain in Span was falling mainly on the planes – and me. Grone.)

Sorry, I’ll get me coat.

Thanks for the kind comments all! I was out swimming yesterday so …

I am glad you could enjoy these and I’m currently working to put my FIO (Cuatro Vientos flying museum) pics from Spain in another tread which I shall post soon.

Cheers,

Stiggy

No, it was removed from the hangar, don’t know where it was. Most probably moved to hangar 5, where the other DH-89 (the bomber) is. But that one was closed. BW Roger (who was there too that morning).

Great stuff! You can flood the forum with arty shots from current air shows, but seeing shots of well-preserved rare aircraft is something else and fascinating. Did you see Franco’s Dragon Rapide, G-ACYR?

Great pics! Sure makes it a lot easier for photography when the walls are painted white!

Good for Madrid!

good for FIO.

Well James, the I-16 is now halfway the Atlantic. By the way, before the end of the year something else from your side of the world will migrate to Madrid. 🙂 BW Roger

It is one of the world’s great collections, and I’ve been very impressed both times I’ve been there.

Many of the aircraft are rare or unique – and they’ve filled a number of gaps with full scale models, which is a good idea in one way, but can catch you out! The orange Cierva is a model, while the C-24 is original. The C-30 (like the Avro Rota) is a modern, airworthy reproduction; new built, copying the loaned RAF Museum example and flown; though I believe it is now grounded.

Both He111s are real, but the DH-4 is a full scale model (seen in the OFMCo hangar at DX many years ago) as is the Bristol Fighter and the Dornier Wal. The Miles Hawk is a modified Magister with ‘trousers’ I believe.

The Fiat CR-32 a partial replica with original parts, and the I-15 a FSM. The Polikarpov I-16 is a FSM, now back from loan to the FIO who, as Roger says, should be the first Europeans to fly an I-16 for many, many years.

One of those Buchons isn’t – it’s an even rarer Ha1112K.1L with the Hispano engine. (The Buchon is the Ha1112M.1L, Merlin powered as we know, and the name is for the deep chin of this version, so doesn’t apply to the preceeding K.1L)

HTH!

There is a new hangar added to the museum, as large as the large old hangar (where the 111ns are in now). But it is always closed when I am there. Give it a go again in October, when the FIO has its Polikarpov flying. BW Roger

The white biplane is a Casa Breguet XIX ‘Cuatro Vientos’
grey one – no markings is (i think) a Hispano Suiza HS34 & 30-170 is (i think) Caudron 272

After this overdose of unique planes I rushed my way out of the museum. (it closes around noon!) I know a lot of planes are still stored here and many projects are still awaiting their turn. Look at this:

I simply can’t post a pic of each plane here. This is only a basic impression of this collection. It is deffinatly worth the entranceprice of 0,60€.

More pics about the nearby FIO and it’s flying collection soon.

I also wish to thank the people who gave me the chance to visit Spain!

Greets,

Stieglitz

Last to visit was the chopper collection and I was simply amazed by the things I could see. Simply one of a kind collection in my opinion:

Wow, some stunning bits of kit there – didn’t realise there was an early He111 left in existence!

And in hanger 3 you could find a long line of biplanes. Some of them are very rare and even sole survivors of their type. A selection:
