Hi all
Whilst my wife was home from Manila for Christmas I gave her a special treat and took her to the QAM about an hours drive from my place near Brisbane – well we went to the beach and it “just happened to be on the way home”.
This is a great Museum – sort of like the Newark of the south for our UK viewers – and well worth a visit. Where else will you find a Sea Vixen , Hunter and Meatbox all ex UK service outside of the UK – other aircraft include Sea Venom , Ventura, Sabre , Caribou etc
The photos are here

and go to Queensland Air Museum at the bottom of the list of galleries.
One very interesting article is the chunk of P38 wing in great condition in one of the photos behind an engine… it was sadly recovered from a scrap merchant here in Brisbane and came from PNG…………….Very sad indeed just makes you wonder what else came through……..
Kindest regards
John P

Many thanks for plugging QAM. As Vice-President it is much appreciated. The P-38 wing section was discovered in a Brisbane scrapyard several years ago. It could be 10 years ago now but it’s still recent enough to be a worry. We have to hope that the wing section we found was the same size when found in PNG! We were led to believe at the time that some scrap is still exported with the approval of the PNG authorities. Anyone wanting more info on the QAM collection can find it at www.qam.com.au
